Yet Another Problem With My Betta

It's a crap medication by interpet and can have bad effect on some fish.
It's your choice but the finrot is an internal bacteria infection. Not external.Keep going for a few more days with the medication.
If no more improvement I would stop.
But don't overdose him.
How much improvement do you think the medication has helped. Very little, or alot?

Ok... so I will add the antibiotics.  I took the conservative route from what I read, I did read another website saying to add 250mg.  I think I will try 200mg (because dividing up the pill is much easier that way).

OK.
Don't do a water change for a couple of days.

Good Luck.

For improvement... I think his behavior has returned to fantastic and his fins stopped getting worse... but nothing else, no sign of any regrowth and his top fin doesn't seem to expand.

I was thinking this morning too... in the last set of pictures I posted his tail is expanded as far as it seems to go from what I can tell... but if you look back in his journal to earlier photos his tail expanded far more, even double what it is now... and he hasn't had any damage or deterioration.  What do you think?

I want to see healthy regrowth on the damage fins.
As for expanding his fins not to sure as I have never kept betta's. Can they get where they can't expand there fins so much as they get older?
You might never get that full expanding tail fin again.
But you can get the damaged fins cleared up if he's healthy enough to get throw it.

I read only that if a betta suffers fin rot up to his body the fins may not grow back or may not grow back properly and work properly, but his aren't up to his body from my point of view.

I tested my tap water and my tank water (which hasn't been that long since my water change but I was still curious) and already the tank has reduced the amount of ammonia that came in with the tap water.  I need a new ammonia test kit... need to order one really soon.

I agree.
The fins might not be as long as they once were but the ends of the fins should start to heal and look healthy.Even though they are shorter. This means the finrot has stopped going further if the ends of the fins look healthy.
Hope that makes sense.

I will try and get a close-up of his top fin, he either goes to the other side of the tank or hangs out at the back because my camera ready light reflects there.

Have you ever tried cutting the fins. Taking the infected area of the fin away with scissors.

I would be a bit scared to try, especially on his top fin which seems to short.

I did it once with a goldfish but I was scared and didn't like it  much.

You tried your best for him.
I'm not to convinced that the medication you are using it going to do the job.
I really hope it does. Hope the next round of medication we will really start to see improvement in the fins.

I've seen a video in the past about how it is done (in the video it was show breeders doing it for perfect edged fins)... I am not too scared to try that one his bottom fins but his top fins are scary as I'd be afraid he'd move and I'd nick his body.

No success taking a decent update picture.

Same, not convinced on the meds either but hoping.

I don't know who jumped more me or the fish. Though it doesn't hurt them. It just makes them jumpy.
I understand about the top fin. I wouldn't try it either it it's already short.

Just give the meds a bit longer you never know.
I know how you feel you start to get so frustrated.

His water hasn't cleared yet as much as I hoped.  Should I leave it?

My cleaning earlier was that I removed about 90% of the water then wiped down everything to get that slimey film off and a gravel clean with the vacuum then replaced the water as normal... it was fine at first then clouded up.  Then I cleaned it again, this time only doing the water change and replaced the water.  (I've since added the antibiotics... maybe I should have waited longer)... the water is about half or just a bit less cloudy than it was.  What is causing that?  I didn't do anything to the filter, I wiped surfaces, did the vacuum as I do every single time I clean the tank anyway... so what would cause that cloudiness then?  Is it safe to leave?  Like I said somewhere above I tested the ammonia and it was already reducing from the reading of my tap water.

It could be the medication. I've never used it so don't have any experience to say if it does make the water cloudy.
Or wipe the good bacteria out in your filter.
I know betta don't like strong currents so you cant turn filter up.You could try an airstone running also on a very low setting to see if that helps.
