And she has a 20 or 25 gallon tank with 4 goldfish and a huge pleco that can't move at all.

Skylar, it sounds like your friend needs some help. She might not know she is hurting these fish. You should talk to her.

I believe we have already had a few threads about acceptable tank sizes, and agreed that although extenuating situations exist, a one gallon tank is the minimum reccomended size for a betta.

One of my friends kept her betta in an old blender (blade removed and replaced with a fake plastic one she got at a gag store) and cut the cord off. Gosh, that poor betta. And you think YOUR life is stressful!

AS long as she keeps the water clean it is fine. Fish are animals with brains the size of a pencil lead. They don't have logical thoughts. Instincts rule their lives. The need to eat and reproduce. Other then that there is not much happening with them. Not saying that is how I would keep my fish but who am I to judge what your friend does?

That is actually bigger than what I had when I got my first betta, Feathers. (I am so ashamed! But I have sworn never to do than to another.)

I had a bettahex. It was smaller than half of the drinking glasses in my kitchen. (I am so ashamed.)

Now I don't go any smaller than 1 gallon, and I prefer larger.

As for it being a veiltail...how shallow can a person get! That is unfair discrimination, that is! Tailism! Just because a betta is cheap and not as pretty and not well bred...ugh!

I can imagine some people getting a small tank out of ignorance. I can imagine some people not buying veiltail because they don't like them. And I can certainly understand getting the best accomodations for an expensive show fish. But if you don't like veiltails and you know small tanks are not good for fish, why bother? Why not just NOT buy it?

i know right? why buy a fish that your gonna treat like crap!!!??? pff its ok lifebear my cousin used to keep bettas in something no bigger than the cups... and i wanted to also!! but i was like 6 so its ...she was 5! and she didnt know and nethier did i .... good thing my dad said "a betta is a fish too if you get a betta we are getting a bigger tank for it... its not living in a cup"
