for some reason the cory in the birthing tank is dying. it doesnt even swim anymore. it like floats and flaps its tail. but its still breathing. from the day i got him he was not very active. he always lays on the gravel in the corner. now he is dying. there might be something in the water. im gonna have that checked out.

can u tell me whats wrong with this? one of my guppy fry is darker than all of the other fry. its the only one that has a light black belly and has spots around its whole body. does this happen occasionally to anyone?

there is no explaining for what is going on here! i lost one of my males last night and he was so beutiful! he was stuck on the filters suck up part. idk if he just got stuck there or if he died then got stuck there. i think he got stuck there because i found him hanging on by his tail and he was so healthy and he had all his color. i fed them 2 hrs before. i think there is something with the water im gonna definetly have that checked and changed.

Has i mentioned you need to test your water for ammonia and nitrite, these need to read zero,

I suggest you do a large waterchange on the tank

I'm glad the fry are doing well, have you lost any more fish? hows the cory?

Its quite normal to have different coloured fry,had females can hold sperm from other males, you often see a mixture of colours in a fry drop.

Do you have a filter in the fry tank? if yes then bubbles from an airpump isn't really necessary unless you want one :)

the last fish i lost was a day ago so thats a good sign and i'll tell u this... 3 females died on monday from giving birth i think, the next day i lost the cory from it beeing bored or something else, then i lost 1 female, then i lost a male on thursday i didnt lose and yesterday and im on today. the fry are one week old today :))) i do have a filter in the tank that water flows thru the top. i know that my females that gave birth didnt mate with one of my males cause i didnt even have it for 28 days only 1 week.

If you are losing fry, there is something wrong. Others have already suggested that the lack of a fully cycled tank may be the problem. If you do not have the kit to measure your water quality, try to do a 50% daily water change on the tank. That is almost always enough for the first few weeks until the tank's filter is able to actually handle the biological load that you place on it with a reasonable stocking level. The water change will benefit the livebearer fry even if the water quality is perfect. I suspect that after a couple of those daily changes even the cory will look much better in your tank. Don't forget the dechlorinator in your process and be careful not to expose the heater to running with no water while you do the change.

actually my cory passed away 2 days ago i only have 1 female and 2 males left. and im not planning on getting anymore until they survive for at least a week. i still have around 25 fry and i havent lost any by them actually dying. i have lost some by getting eaten. yea see i have had to put my adult guppies in with my fry because of a water problem with the other tank. i have them seperated by a divider. some fry can squeeze thru the sides of the divider to get to the adult(which i dont know why) can u tell me exactly what to do with a water change? ive done plenty before but i really want to do this one right its my only hope plzzz help

A water change is simple and will not hurt the fish. Unplug the heater and the filter first. Use your gravel vac to siphon off about half of the water into a bucket. Use a dechlorinator in the bucket of new water to make sure you don't shock the new fish with chlorine and try to match the new water's temperature to the tank temperature. You can use your hand to judge the match.

i dont have a gravel vac all i have is an air pump and a siphon thing connected to an air diffuser and it makes bubbles.do i have to use a gravel vac or can i just use a cup or something?

If you have a tank small enough to use a cup, what are you doing with fish the size of guppies in it? If you have some spare air hose, you can make a very good, but a bit slow, siphon of a length of it. You do need to clean your substrate so something like a gravel vac would be a good idea, otherwise it is just too hard to be effective.

i meant to use the cup to take the water out. its a 5 gallon tank and its with guppy fry and 3 guppys i can sure use a cup to just take out some water.

In a 5 gallon, I would use something bigger than a typical cup. Maybe a 4 cup measuring cup would make it practical to use. It takes a long time to run back and forth with a small container.
