Why Are The 'clubs' Being Closed?

There isn't just one reason for closing them and considering their existence:
  • [*]The issue there being too many of them (I know there are at least 10). We don't want a clb for every fish and every forum and subforum.
whats wrong with having 10 or more, it helps ppl, gives a good impresion on the forum, gives ppl a look on how to care, breed & choose proper tank mates with the fish that said why close them anyway if they have been going on for so long with out even one little glitch or problem
[*]Appointment of officers and assignment of member numbers which could give the impression to a new member that they are run by the forum.
they wouldnt think that way i know i didnt
[*]Brand new members forming clubs I assume just to have the "manager" title and a sense of belonging. We really know nothing about their fishkeeping experience and whether they know much at all about the fish they are forming a club for.
...when did this happen, every one who has started a club knows alot about the fish that club is dedicated to!

    just try to name 1!

Nelly... You say that having everything in one thread makes it easier, but the opposite is entirely true. If I was looking for information about, say, oscar breeding, I could stick it in the earch and come up with plenty of topics dedicatedto just that. Compare with having to search through hundreds of pages of generally useless posts, and it probably takes more of a 'computer whizz' to find what you are looking for there.

There's no real problem with having just a picture thread, because if you want to look at pictures then that's fair enough, but I am yet again going to reiterate that considering the rest of the forum, the profile section is lagging behind, and if you want to share information then that is the place to do it.

I won't name any names, but within the last two days we have banned two such people. One was for plagiarism and the other was for trolling. Please understand that these are serious matters. TFF just can't be in the position of appearing to endorse this kind of thing by allowing them to start clubs. I will tell you, however, that they were not among the long time and responsible members who are expressing their support of clubs on this thread.

The mods are still actively following this thread and discussing what we will do, but please expect it to take a little while longer. Your comments have been helpful and we do appreciate your patience. :D

catfish00 for the Oddball Club: no age listed but I certainly believe to be young and new to the hobby

Name omited as per Inchworm's post: since he posted a bunch of plagiarized copy and paste stuff in both the cory and pleco sections, who knows what he knows but it's certainly not a good representation of the forum if a "club manager" is posting plagiarized material

Matthew Lee Newell in catfish club in plecos: that club was 23 posts long and had 2 posts that actually dealt with catfish and the other 21 were about managers, member numbers, etc. and not a single post by MLN dealt with catfish. Does he really know catfish? Look at his posts in the Catfish section. They are all asking questions such as what is this compatible with and will corys do a good job of keeping the sand clean. Hardly someone that is very knowledgeable on the subject.

Part of the problem is that since the members are so new, we really don't know how much they know about the specific fish (or any fish for that matter) that they are making themselves the proclaimed leader of the club for.

From my point of view, there is a big difference between the oscar, severum and chana clubs as compared to the ones I've mentioned above but until we can sort this out, we felt it unfair to close some and leave others open as that would have created just as much of a mess.

ok then, why not leave them all open and give the others a very strict warning that if they cant talk about the fish the club is dedicated to then it may be closed end of story!

I say keep the clubs just not as sticky's...that way the clubs can continue to exist as long as the members take an interest...simple

I thought a strict warning about General Chatting was already in place?

Well if everyone creates a club then i have just counted approx 20 clubs that could be made, not including sub categories (eg, 1 club for oscars, 1 for angelfish both under new world cichlids).

It gets ridiculous and unecassary. As quite a few have pointed out, do a search and you get information on exactly what you want... breeding for example, all in one or two threads, not spread out over numerous pages.

i cant see the point in them, isnt that what the whole forum is for? if not, why not just create 1 big club for each category, and lets all discuss every aspect we know in there....

It's not just the lack of talk about the fish. As mentioned before, there is the matter of naming officers, owners, managers, etc. that give the club the look of being run by the forum. And also, as I mentioned the inexperience of some of those starting forums as too many are being formed by someone just so they a can say it's their club.

Yes i can see your point, however if you go to the first post of the first page i have added good links to breeding of oscars/caring etc etc.....so you dont need to flick through hundreds of pages.......

rdd1952....you say problem is the heading,manager/secertery etc....why can we not change the headings,if you unlocked the clubs i could do that in two seconds flat,,

Really i cannot understand what the problem is with these posts....there fish related and in there correct section of the forum, theres no bad laungage no fighting or nasty posts, theres pictures which can help people see what there fish will look like through stage's of there fishe's life, also there is so general chat about problems people encounter through there time with these fish and guess what its all in one place, not everyone are computer wizz's.....i sure know iam not a person who can search for hours, so whats the problem having info and exsperience's and picture's all in one place?

Ok the club section may have gone to far but that was just abit of light hearted fun, which for some reason this forum is lacking and the member's just seem to enjoy ripping everything apart much like a pack of wolve's

everyone enjoys looking at fish pictures and when you get that certain bug its natural to chat and look at all pics you can, everyone says search seach search, well he is the seach in one thread,sorted.....done.....

Its one thread which says for example "channa thread" so why cant people think oh iam not intrested in channa so i wont bother looking,oh look theres a thread on guppys breeding-i think i will read that one, click sorted... now that was not difficult really was it,

read through the whole of this thread and have to say I agree totally with Nellys post here

I work hard all day in a stressful job where I have a lot of responsobility with peoples lives and futures. I;m 33 married with kids and consider myself to be quite mature and responsible. I;m a member of the channa and oscar clubs and prior to this thread and I have have enjoyed posting on them...at no point did I feel by taking a number I was achieving some form of status as some posters have suggested... the only thing that suprises me is that these clubs are an issue with anyone. I use forums to relax and to discuss and read about a great hobby that I have enjoyed for 18 yrs so suggestions by adolescent keyboard warriors that I join a club and take a number for status is quite annoying.... I just enjoyed the banter and subject matter!!! How bizarre on a forum heh!!!

To be quite honest the only thing I think is spoiling these forums are what appear to be the newer "younger " member swho feel the nee to latch onto any discussion and have a pop at other members without usingany discretion at all. I post less these days and come on the site less these days and I can;t help but think its threads and issues such as this which is contributing to my disolusionment with the forum

Its a shame but as I say I can;t understand how any of this can be an issue tht people consider during their everyday lives

... and that may just be one of the most sensible posts yet on the subject.

I don't think the Channa and Oscar club were in debate here mate. THe point the mods are making is that while they come up with a solution it would be unfair to keep open the more legitimate clubs like the Oscar, Severum and Channa clubs, while they decide what to do with the clubs that are just an excuse for general chat. I honestly think that the clubs should stay open, but there would have to be some sort of guidelines for them to stay open, aka, you elect a chairman who deals with all the club threads. And if there is someone just posting dribble and making the thread look bad, this chairman should be responsible for reporting them immediatly so the people with real authority on this board can take care of them. <---- (Sounds very violent ).

Don't worry, I've also said quite a few times that the links were a good thing, but would be better placed in the profile section as that's probably the first place a lot of people will look.

I'd also like to add that the only reason this thread has become such a palava is that for once it's a new concept; everyone is bored of 'lets have a GC', 'can we have a forum for bananas' etc. so those threads don't get a heap of traffic.
