I have a 4-H fish project, and I have to do a specialty tank. I have the choice between:
Livebearers
Cichlids
Goldfish
Catfish

Which one do you think I should do?

Thanks!
Annastasia

I'd say go with the livebearers. They are inexpensive and don't require as much room as the other types listed do.

Um, what's 4H and how much room do you have?
4-H is like a community club where kids between 8-18 do a specialty project, like horses, fish, dogs, rocketry.....

I don't know what size tank to do this with. I am thinking, like a 30 or something. What do you think?

A 30 could have kribs, but as already said livebearers would need less room and be easier ;)

Maybe get interesting livebearers like halfbeaks or endlers or something.

Yeah, interesting livebearers could be good. I am don't really want to do like guppies or platys, because I have already done them. I want to try something different.

goldfish...

easy to maintain...
they can live in anything from your hottub to your toilet

and they NEVER DIE

that's if you have never done anything with fish before...

if you have...cichlids...they are awesome

Endler's Livebearers would be a great choice. Easy to keep, colorful and interesting, and when you're talking about your project you can add the bit about the Endler's possible extinction in the wild and how the aquarium hobby is trying to maintain the species. Plus you can actually help, which is kinda cool too.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Goldfish - There are a lot of interesting varities available to select from.

WTF?

IMO goldfish are one of the hardest fish to keep and they need lots of room, way more than the majority of tropical fish. So your bath/toilet analogy is out of the window.

I'd go with cichlids (small like kribs) or interesting livebearers. Plecs could be very interesting too.

I think this was a wind-up, miss cheese... at least i HOPE it was!! An april fool thingy maybe...

Okay, I narrowed down my choices to:
Endlers Livebearers
Cichlids
Catfish

Can cichlids get along with any ther fish? I don't want a whole tank takin' up with cichlids. If I did catfish or Endlers, I could put some other fish in after I am done with the project.
But I am really interested in cichlids.
AHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Any other comments?
