seeing as there's always topics on how a LFS member of staff annoyed you i thought we would have 1 on the customers that tick workes like my self off!!

The fish and chip jokes........yeh that would look good with some chips

My tank is this big (stretch out arms) and the volume... urm about 10 gallons

how can i make my piranah visous... :flex:

can i have some discount

customers that think they know better

customers that don't listen to advise then moan at a later date

customer that come in just before closing that want to buy a tank

customers that take AGES over picking a certain fish, ok on koi but for goldfish  there gonna change colour any way luv

my solar lights aren't bright enough in march...give me a refund

"it probable won't live long any way"

" it only grows to the fish of the tank"

i want a koi for my gold fish bowl :grr:

" i can get it cheaper at _________"...so why are you here then

well that was fun

A fellow came in yesterday and bought a oscar for his 10gallon goldfish tank... That is sooooooooooo wrong on many levels. If I was the person baging the fish, he would have not bought it-but I am only a cashier.

People who buy goldfish for 10 gallon tanks

People who mix goldfish with tropical fish

And when people buy 2 tetras and get platties or some thing as their shoal mates (pun not intended)
"they just don't like being alone in the tank I thought"... yea but they like their own kind

You know what... the people who really need to hear this will never be on the forums... I mean all the people on this forum know not to do the things we are complaining about...

yeah, but most of the people on this forum don't realise that there are TWO sides to the LFS coin: employee and customer. there's an overabundance of threads complaining about how LFS don't do enough and also about LFS that do too much! (i.e. 'angels are delicate and take a lot of work')

i think the goal of this thread is to express that hey! LFS are run by people too! ...and some of those pople are on this board; and most of those people are highly knowledgeable and committed fishkeepers.

yeh thats a good one... we have a bank of tanks with just tetras that are 95p 6 for £5 and they ask for 1 of each. idiots

oh another one is that people that point out the deads! one time i got in late and no one else was in, we had a particularly bad week for illness and some guy wonders in when i still have it on closed and starts pointing out the deads then shouts down the other end of the shop to me, could of swung for him.

or that fish is dead...no it's a plec/butterfly fish... thats what they do.

ohhhhh..... when we had a big cat in a display tank some poeple would look at it and say thats ugly if only the boss would let me say...." i beleive thats your reflection lmadam"

spont on pica_nuttalli!!

One of my hates is this..

"Look mum its nemo".... Do kids want me to hate them? :(
Or
"I think the fish you have labelled is missing"
err, no its just hiding under this bit of wood...

"My tank is massive"
How big sir?
"About 60 litres"
*sigh*

And yes Paul, I hate it when customers think they know best. Usually they are clearly wrong but if not i am quick to admit my mistakes. You usually find older men that think they know everything about the hobby and have been doing it for 30 years.... Yet they are still doing everything by the standards of old... "In My day" etc...

I am very picky about what I sell to people, i don't like the idea of selling a fish that is big enough for someones tank now but will outgrow it in 6 months. Because 90% of the time they wont buy a new tank and will just let it have a tough life in their small tank. I try to ask as many questions as possible without offending! This way i can acertain whether they really are dedicated enough. You can usually tell from someones attitude and body language if they don't actually care about the fish and you'd be surprised how many customers lie out-right to you. Its a shame that some just have not regard for living things however seemingly insignificant they are!

this is a good post i hate it when you hear

"ohhh thats pretty lets get that one:drool: oh it needs a 50 gal tank ill bet it will survive in a 20

but its not like you can tell them that they CANT have that fish

One time i wanted to throw a brick at the marine display tank,
It had some of the fish from finding nemo......
you can guess what happened.

Another thing that annoys me when adults tell me "You're to young to know about fish...go get me an adult"
I just tell them a scientific name of an Apistogramma  or i tell them about the cycle...
they shut up and listen :D

I don't work at an LFS, but I almost snap whenever I here some little kid run into the store screaming "NEMO, NEMO!" :grr: Stupid Disney
I've seen plenty of uneducated fish keepers in stores, I walk away if they get to ridiculous with their nonsense about fish. "Look at the betta, they can live in cups, right?"

See I could come with a thread griping about LFS just as easy as you can gripe about employees.

Like why does every LFS seem to want to rip people off? $99 for a Emperor 400 or $179 for a Fluval304!!!! Everything is easily two to three times the price at the LFS as it is at most online retailers. I understand there is overhead but thats rediculous.

oh dear, i'm one of those that point out the deadies... but i try to be laid back about it; these things do happen. i personally am only bothered if its obvious the carcass is days old OR i came a couple of days ago and its the same dead fish the next visit. (but those two only happen in chain stores, IME)

is it annoying to point out fish that aren't doing so hot (gouramis upside down or a big expensive fish gasping on the gravel)? how about that the newts are trying to eat the cory cats? :/ i just want to be helpful...

The people who want neons and as I stick my net in go "I want that one"....Like I dont hear that all the time
Um.....I do that.
Not.
I've never bought neons....but soon will.
I dont work at a lfs, but I hear lotsa things from my friend who's a fish bagger.

" I was looking into my fish tank, and all my fish died over night!
Mam, what size is your tank? (She points to one of the display tanks, about 10Gs)
Did you do a cycle before you bought your fish?
A what?......."

I was with my cousin, and he looked at the tanks, and we were discussing what might be a wise dessision fior his 10G.
A bagger woman came up to assist us.
Henry (My cousin) wanted 2 dwarf flame and one kisser.
She bagged the 2 dwarfs, and she asked what else he wanted, and he said the kisser I said
"Henry, I told you, those get too big!"
And the woman said "He can chose whatever he wants!"
I almost said, Who in the woirld are you to say that?!?
But being the nice person I am I didn't.
So we paid and left with just the 2 dwarfs.

Just to let yall workers know, remember, the cusomer alays knows best. But ALWAYS coment if it'll save them from heart ache, or a major money mistake.
