What Lurks In The Not Dark Places

Rock was from my main tank, nice and mature.... Ho hum these things happen, shame I put a sympodium frag in there :(

Hey hey cheers nemo! If sps will be ok the softies will soon be out :)

Ta much girl.

pfft did another WC and the ammonia is still sky high but no nitrite or nitrate! i am going to strip the powerhead down to see if anything is in it but i had a thought....
the rock came from a high fed system... could this be a mass bacteria death from starvation as there isnt the nutrients available?

i have tested other water with the same kit and evrything is fine, this has me stumped!!! i may break the nano down and start again lol

Thanks so much fella! But I have a secret weapon! Sleeping pills and booze!

Whatta combination!....That should block out a screaming baby! lol

OMG!.........Pics!................bout'time..lol

EDIT: Do apologise! did'nt realise you was locking horns with ammonia.

Could be the change from high neutrients to low but If something has come across on the rock and croaked then that could be it, although I doubt it with all that mature rock in there. That it was one big spike of Ammonia tho I must say.

Prob best to remove the coral if poss and let the good old nitrogen cycle take it's course so to speak.

Well the powerhead got stripped down  that surely didn't help with the water quality, it womped so bad I cleaned it in the stuff I use to sterilise brewing equipment.

Hopfully I will see a drop tommorow and after a mighty water change (I may do 7lt!) I can add some cuc to stop the rank getting to murky, there is a hermit crab that somehow got in there that seems happy as larry even though it must be like an acid bath.

Hnag on, you are a brewer :hyper: you kept that quiet, what do you make or should I say brew?

So we have Sorgan who can supply booze and HG amazing cakes, guys, we are set for life :kana:

Seffie x

Well I am actually a butcher by trade bit I brew ale, wine and sometimes cider at home. I make everything from scratch so I know exactly what goes into it (usually 200% British barley, hops and home reared yeast strains)

That's why I frequently make little sense :) to many samples.

got home and still had high ammonia so i have pulled all the rock out and put it back into the main tank (it came from there in the first place) i removed pretty much all the water and replaced it and i will buy some new LR a bit later.

Just got a nice juicy new bit of rock with loads of hitchikers, let's see what happens eh.

So this is my rock

Now the wait begins, I have got a bit of (we think) enchinopora put to one side for me at the LFS and we had a little chat about sps (seems montipora, hystirix and staghorns are the way to go with this tank) I'm not sure but I might add an scan or something aswell.

So today I found my old tmc v2 80 nano skimmer and went out and bought one of those cheap plastic pet tanks.
The plan is to have the skimmer on the cheap plastic tank being fed from the pico, in the cheap tank I will have the heater and any carbon/phosphate remover. Then the water will cascade back into the pico via a little (bodged) waterfall kind of thing. The skimmed needs to be fed with 800lph so the turn over will be fine :) that means extra water volume and less junk in the tank, result.

so today i spent my day off relaxing, well i did after putting some plants in the front garden.... oh and starting to build the babies bedroom stuff... TBH today hasnt been so relaxing but i did do this
