What Is Squared Off?

My platy was very active and superslim after she'd had the last lot of fry.
Can only think of loads of questions to ask -
Have you any other fish in with her? If so are they lethargic too?
Is it an established tank or newly set up? What are the water test results like? Water temp?

Another thing aswell has you netted her or trapped her that's what happened to mine when I did that

there are other fish in with her. 1 Angelfish, 2 Ruby Sharks, 2 Bleeding Hearts, 1 Columbian Tetra, 1 sucker fish and the 2 Black Mollies. They are all active and happy.  I have had the tank for over a year and i keep the water temp at 75* or slightly warmer. Not sure what my water test results are... haven't done it in a little while... i noticed today she sorta looks boxy again...  I'll try to get a pic of her later.

I have a tank divider and put her in that section of the tank.

Sorry if you already know all this Linda but it might be worth doing some water quality tests now as a baseline because when the fry are born the bioload will be very much increased and you could end up with an ammonia spike. Before my platy started producing fry I used to check the water and do pwc once a month as there were only 2 adult platys in the tank. When the fry were born I did the tests every other day and was needing to do pwc every 4-5 days. That's why I got a bigger tank. At the moment the fry are about a month old and I've settled on weekly tests and pwc altho I'll increase the frequency when this next lot of fry are born. My female platy is as fat, active and hungry as ever! lol
Any news from your tank yet?

Congratulations on the fry. They looks so cute.
However, do you have at least an air pump to put in because still water provides no oxygen and these cuties will suffocate in this bowl.
Also, change the water several times daily because leftover food can raise the ammonia in unfiltered bowl in minutes/hours.

yes i have an air pump... but it has no end to protect them from it....
i will change water daily also. this is my first time to have babies!! i'm so excited!!!

Sorry to be so insisting, but better a tube blowing bubbles than suffocated babies. It should not harm them in any way. There's no oxygen going into the water if the surface is not rippled and it's a matter of time only. They may already be stressed.
It's a risky thing trying to grow fry in unfiltered, non-oxygenated bowl. You'd need to be doing several daily water changes to not only be giving them a chance to live, but to prevent them from getting sick from ammonia and organic build up and possibly severe stunting if they live.

I plan on getting my 10 gal tank set up asap and putting them in there. they will have plenty of room to grow in that then. for now i have the bubbles in the small glass bowl they are in. i just wanted them away from my mean angelfish that would think they was a snack.

The angel fish would treat them as snacks.  A 10G tank is way better idea, especially if you can jump start the cycle with media from your established tank. Good luck with them.

OH i didn't know you could do that!! i will do it for sure!!
Thanks so much for that tip!! i just got the 10 gal running. it doesn't have a proper filtration unit on it yet but it has one on it for now running it thru to get it started. i will go to the pet center and get water testing stuff and a proper fry proof filtration for the tank. i have plenty of hidey holes and stuff for them... but i think i will get more. would like some drift wood in it maybe. it has brown gravel in the tank unlike my 30 gal.

This is what the tank looks like now. any ideas what else to do to it for decorations?

can you use cheesecloth over a regular filter to protect the fry from being sucked up into the filter?

I used a sock for mine, lmao and yes as soon as you get all the black muck
From your old filter u can tip it in the new One give It 5 mins and it will settle put the babies in,
I did use a filter in mine without a sock when they hit 2 weeks and there fine but u can use anything! Socks tights tea towel they all seem fine in mine, but that could be luck

Cute looking fry Linda! You must be thrilled!
I didn't cover the filter or anything like that and the fry that escaped mum's voracious appetite have thrived.
My female platy is still active and hungry but she's looking quite big today so maybe there'll be news soon. She'll drop them only when she's ready and not to suit me anyway! lol

My danios are 2 weeks old and the size off newborn fry now and there in a tank with a Fluval u3 and they are fine just stay away from
It but it's heavly Planted
