What Did You Do To Your Tank Today?

Today i rearranged the decor in on of my tanks. I also found some nice pieces of real neat twisted pieces of wood in my swamp, which I have stripped of they're remaining bark, cleaned with a brush, and then boiled. I am waterlogging them in a bucket right now and will put them in a tank when they are done.

You have your own swamp? :look:

i poured 1/2 a tub of fish food into my fry tank and then sh*t myself. - 10 mins before i had to go to work.

sucked as much as i could out and when i got home, was about to do another w/c but there wasnt any food around! thank god for overfiltering and having very greedy cichlid fry. no more food for a few days.

i suggested to my husband we get a 5 foot tank for other alcove, he agreed as he likes new tichy tank with sand woo hoo, now gotta plan saving up for it and what we'd like to keep in it ! never done cichlids so may research them a bit, have a 4 foot community set around tiger barbs and the titchy tank is home for a betta and six neons and 2 ad frogs.

I did my ritual water check which I am doing twice a day at the minute. fed my fish and then removed all 3 rocks as I think this may be the source of my pH spike (currently 8.2 from 7.6 2 days ago).

I also pruned 2 dead leaves off my green amazon sword and found that this was actually 2 plants in one so split these and now have another plant in another part of the tank where I yesterday removed some non-aquatic plants that were dying.

Fish are 3 days into new tank and are still timid with light on but some are venturing out of cover of plants now and exploring other parts of the substrate. they only venture towards the surface with the light on at feeding time!!

Going to go to LFS in a couple of days (when I get paid) and get some twisted vallis and indian fern and a new tank ornament that hopefully won't raise my pH.

Nothing....and wont doing anything for at least the next 7 weeks :(

I went to my favourite, but rarely visited LFS and purchased a yellow female betta who I expect will be gorgeous once she's less stressed out. I'm planning a -very- slow introduction for her to the tank. She's floating in a breeder box right now, and will remain there for the next couple days while the rest of the girls get used to seeing her, and then I'll release her once they stop taking interest. She's so much smaller than them that I'm afraid they'll kill her (she's a skinny little think, and about 1/2" smaller than my smallest betta).

I dug my arms into my 5 gallon tank and ripped out any melted crypt leaves, and had to unclog the fitler because melted leaves clogged the filter intake.

I fed my 15 gallon female community tank, and watched two of my girls leap out of the water when they grabbed their pellets. I noticed that one of my girls is eating WAY too much and am considering separating her and feeding her apart from the other girls so I could control what she eats.

I admired the lovely algae growing in my 15 gallon tank. I've got a ton of hair algae, but it seems to be fairly contained to only certain parts of the tank. I'm not dosing anything, and as long as it doesn't get out of control, I plan to ignore it. It's actually kind of pretty, in an odd way...

.. well i cleaned out my fluval u3 internal filter and holy poo!! i was basically plunging out all the gunk
blink.gif
been about a month and half if im honest since i washed the pads and changed the filter floss and my god did it need it lol

also i did about a 50% water change as i didnt realise all the gunk was stuck in the bottom and when i put the pads back in the 1st time it totally plunged the gunk into my tank! ... water is spotless now mind you :) love a flesh clean looking tank

Morning: observed tank, checked the water temperature, water level and pump outlets all :good:

Afternoon: (day off) observed fish for far to long as I was meant to be decorating

Evening: observed fish, fed fish, then later run the net around the tank to remove a few bits and some POO!

Later evening: Removed the bit from a muscle that my Loaches wont eat then just watched the tank, Blue neon moon faze came on and as usual things went quiet so spoke to the Mrs  she monopolises far to much of my time

Regards onebto :good:

tested sis in laws water, all ok. taught her about nitrogen cycle and not to wash filters under the tap (tut tut)think shes just been unlucky with her fish dying! gave her a huge list of possible tank mates and showed her this site and another to help her out.and just watching my tanks now :)

Checked out the fins on each of my female bettas in the sorority tank, added a little melafix and pimafix as a preventative, and did a lady-betta count to ensure that everyone was still alive, active, and healthy. After monitoring their behaviour, I noticed that no one was taking any interest in the new girl, but she was actively trying to get out and explore, so I released her into the tank. She's laid claim to a small area of territory around some terra cotta pots.

I took a whole bunch of really great photos last night of the girls tank and started a journal of future changes to the tank and photos on the Betta Photos/Journals section.

EDIT: I also set my lights to go on with a timer at 6pm until 1am because my landlord is showing the house today to potential new tenants (I move out April 30th), and I don't need him knowing that I have the lights on during "prime" electricity hours. (I don't feel bad about running up his electricity bill because our rent is all-inclusive, and he won't fix -anything- in the house, including our cable tv). I'm writing an essay at the university and likely won't be leaving to go home until 1am at the earliest, so it's not a huge deal to have the lights on at night.

changed plenty of water while hoovering over my sand. removing a bit of wood and some rocks to get at the worst of it. i also removed an amazon sword as mine have grown so well they were blocking out too much light and taking up too much room, so its going over to my mates later on. didnt finish hoovering though, need to do some more tomorrow to get to the point where the substrate is toally clean.

omg , added a bamboo shrimp to titchy tank then decided to do a water change, to cut a long story short then found shrimp in kitchen sink (he seems to be ok tho) how he managed to get sucked up i have no idea as syphon has a mesh thing on it!
