Also make sure to check out the cam shaft and timing chain/belt also. A broken timing chain/belt could easily cause the engine to crank but not fire as the cam shaft would not spin to operate the intake/exhaust valves.

Yes. There is nothing wrong with the timing chain. Nice and tight. No broken link or anything. Got all that off today. Just have to remove the exhaust manifold and intake manifold tomorrow. Was pretty cold today so could not work too long.

A lot of times things like this can be a pain to figure out as there are just so many possibilities. To go the simple route I assume that the coil and fuel pump have been checked out.

Starting the application process for hunting licenses. Besides the usual elk and antelope, I'm thinking about putting in for moose and bison. Both are an extremely low-probability draw, but the past several years we've had moose in easy bow range, while out hunting elk. So why not? Bringing down a moose with a primitive bow would be pretty amazing. And bison? That would be just awesome. Either way, we'd eat like kings, probably for several years.

As to what I'm doing today the answer is mostly nothing but chilling although I am, once again, doing my fruitless search for a decent Yahtzee computer game. Surprisingly the Hasbro version is one of the worst as the logic algorithms are horrendous. I do have another version that is better than Hasbro's but still not very good. The biggest gripe with the second is the interface basically sucks even though the algorithms, while not great, are better than the Hasbro version. With as popular the game is one would think there would be decent versions all over the place.

Ya, I know, when I talk computer stuff I'm often over some heads such as many probably have no clue as to what an algorithm is so here ya go. Basically it is used for decision making in a computer program. I guess it could be considered a form of artificial intelligence.

My power has been out for 3 hrs with an estimated 4 hrs to go. Used a car jump starter inverter to power my house wifi so I can still feed my web surfing addiction. Listening to talk radio while browsing the forums. Laying in bed under the covers to conserve body heat. I may watch a movie on my chromebook.

COOL! But not the outage... I have a 100 watt DC/AC inverter in my car that plugs into the cigarette lighter so if I'm out on a photo shoot I can charge my laptop if needed. Also works well if I'm out all day with my radio control stuff to run the charger for the batteries.

Today I spent hours on hold to HMRC as they're charging me interest on non-payment when I've paid, in full, on time. Honestly, I seriously wonder why I like being self-employed. Nothing but hassle.

(Re) finished tanning my elk hide. It turned out rather nice, though not perfect, and I learned a ton. The next one will be a lot easier and turn out even better. But this one should make some nice moccasins or boots, or maybe a sporran, or a backpack, or a quiver...something.

One thing that surprised me is how much it shrank. This one turned out about the size of a smallish deer hide. I also bark tanned a squirrel hide, and it stayed about the same size. So I'm not quite sure what's happening there. But it's still plenty big to make something nice.

Missed this somehow. Elk and antelope are venison, just different kinds. Compared to deer, elk is generally a little less gamey, but still very flavorful, like fine beef without the fat. Antelope is generally a little stronger tasting than deer, but excellent for jerky or sausage. With most venison, a lot depends on the specific animal. Rutting males are almost always going to be tougher and gamier than dry females or young, non-breeding males. Young doe pronghorns have nicely mild-tasting meat, and last year's elk was a young-of-the-year, almost a calf, and she was amazingly tasty.

My experience with black bears is limited since I don't hunt them myself (hoping to change that some day), but my friends who hunt and cook them say that it depends completely on what they're eating. Since bears are opportunistic omnivores, that can mean anything from garbage and carrion to berries and pine nuts. Obviously the latter make for better tasting meat. Both of my bear hunting friends are also professionally trained chefs, and I can attest that they make some fine eating when treated well in the field and in the kitchen.

We're getting a new roof on our house! Still hoping to sell it, but in the mean time I'm sick of shoveling the roof. Steel should be here in about a week, and the new roof should go on the week after that. It will be nice to have that done.

I took my car in for its registration/inspection, and when they put it on the lift and got it high up, there was a huge bang. The hydraulic lift had snapped on one side, and the cylinder started spewing oil. We got supports under the car and there it sits. They can get it down tomorrow, but I believe that lift is kaput.

I told the guy he wasn't allowed to say my car was overweight and out of shape in the inspection report.
