What are you doing today?

Today I went to the doc for re-catarac surgery counseling. Before. Going we hauled all the pond decor from storage.

I had to come home sick today. I've had a bad headache since I woke up at five. Usually I can tough it out until these headaches go away; I get with the kids and start having fun and next thing I'm feeling better. But not today. About ten minutes into my second class...It's kind of hard to describe, but my body told me that something very bad was going to happen if I didn't quit. Right now. Sort of like nausea, but in my head instead of my stomach.

I don't think I've ever had to walk out on a class before. Fortunately there was a para in the room who is great with the kids, and they know her, and it's a pretty great class. Got somewhere I could sit down; school nurse checked me out and determined that I was certainly not dead and probably not dying. Doctor confirmed this a little later. Hoping to get into a PT guy later this week and do something about these headaches, though. Don't much care for 'em.

Hope that you feel better soon and it isn't COVID...

They going to 'scrape' the lens or do inter ocular implants?
Implants. Doctor explained three implant options. One is Standard and will clear my basic eye issue but I will continue to need specs for night driving and distance seeing. The other two correct those deficits to some extent. They cost 2000 or 2500 respectively. I only require one eye repaired at this time as the right is normal. I have a bit of time to decide whether the cost equals the benefit. I am leaning toward the standard as I do not mind specs.

Today we will distribute the yard art around the pond and set up the game area in preparation for Saturday's fish fry. We expect about 30 people this year. The party peaked at about 50 people pre-plague but has diminished somewhat post Covid. Linda and I supply pasta salad, mac salad, fruit salad, carnival sausage, and of course beer. I serve both a honey ale and a light lager at the party. Both are draft form from my Keg-o-lator, an old freezer that I repurposed. The Perch used for the fry have been jigged by several people and we have about 20 pounds to 25 pounds of "bacon" sized fillets to fry. I will also remove the 2 1/2 gallons of toasted brown ale that I brewed last winter for the beer batter I use for the fish. Will simmer the beer at 175 degrees to remove the alcohol and also add some Cascade Hops to strengthen the bitterness slightly. The brew makes an excellent batter for the Perch, or as we call them, the poor man's shrimp.

This is our big and only get together for the year and we have hosted this party for about thirty years. The party begins at about 10AM and will be wound down about 6 or 7 PM.

That all sounds absolutely delicious. Is anyone coming from the UK that can give me a lift? (I'm ready now).

I already wore reading glasses so it was no problem for me to wear glasses after implants. I was told the normal implant here is for being able to see distance but need reading glasses; the opposite implants are available for the few people who want distance glasses but not reading glasses.

I have retinal photography every year as I have diabetes, and the pre-op photos were just a solid orange circle while the post-op photos showed all the veins. I was told there are special filters to allow the person examining the photos to see the veins, I certainly couldn't see them with no filters on the photos. It's no wonder I couldn't see properly.

Yes, that is the basic convo I had with the doc yesterday.

Two grand is a lot of bucks for what amounts to convenience. Perhaps 20 years ago it would be money well spent. Today probably not.

That's where I'm lucky. With the NHS I didn't pay anything.

And I was already on the books of the regional eye clinic for ocular hypertension so the op was done there rather than the nearest hospital.
