What are you doing today?

Finished building the waterfall/manifold in the 30 gallon. Glue should be cured enough to try it out tomorrow afternoon. Looks OK...should look great with water cascading over it and hillstream loaches frolicing in same. :) Went over to the dentist's office to grab some river rocks and juniper branches left over from the South America build a couple years ago. They're still there, but buried under about six inches of solid ice. Guess I'll be waiting a while before I finish the scape. This winter won't quit.

Luna is just OUT... Deep sleep 😂

Deciding whether to do the work myself or take my car to a shop. Just sprung a leak in the upper radiator hose and I need the negative battery cable terminal end replaced; the actual cable is fine. Both are easy to do but I can't decide if I want to mess with it especially as I'm due to take the car in for an oil change anyway.
If you have the time and the skills to do the work and your health allows and you have an area to do the work, why not save some $$ and do it yourself. Around here a mechanic makes about $120 an hour plus parts and and a dealer would probably charge $150 an hour or more. So figuring the job is 1 to 2 hours, you could save about $120 to $180 compared to bringing it to a mechanic. That would buy about 5 or more nice dinners in a quality restaurant. The choice though is yours and yours alone.

I think I've decided I'm going to have my car stuff done at a shop. Ya I could save some money doing it myself and am able. Shoot, I swapped engines, replaced timing gears and chain along with head gaskets. I just have no desire to work on cars anymore. I'd rather pay more to have someone else do it.
Winter isn't fun to drain rads, recover anitfreeze etc. ( my Arizona buddies can't seem to wrap their heads around the whole antifreeze thing). There are simple battery terminal ends that clamp on, otherwise you do need a hydraulic press.

Got a couple of "wild" endlers. They only had males so I guess I'll move some of the Japan Blue females in with them and see what evolves...

There are factors against doing it myself.

1) I don't want to do it. ;)

2) I live in an apartment and it is against my lease to do auto repairs. While some do it anyway I believe that signing a lease, or any contract, is no different than giving my word. If I can't keep my word I'm not worth much.

3) I'm 68 and a Wyoming winter isn't the time to be out working on a car.

I have both inlaws at my house at the moment.
My parents have been up the entire week.
Hubby's parents came up today.
I can't wait till I have a quiet house again. I don't want to see my electric bill for this month.

LOL! in-laws are strange critters. ;) I remember when I divorced my ex my mother-in-law still sent me birthday and Christmas cards with money for years.

It didn't work. I have some leaks somewhere that are letting the water out rather than sending it over the waterfall. Also, I need a more powerful pump, which will take at least another week to get here, even if I could afford it, which I can't right now. And did I mention the rocks and wood I need are encased in ice? Grrrrrrr 💥💥
