My upstairs neighbour just came round with the elderly lady that he is unofficial carer for (she is a family friend of his who his mother had him promise to keep an eye on before his mother passed away 29 years ago...so he feels obliged to look after the old lady despite her pretty much wrecking his own retirement and causing him to have a pacemaker fitted and she generally winds him up on a daily basis but he is also a big softy who cannot or will not say no to her)
She apologised profusely for "all the trouble" with the water deluge into my flat, thanked me for being so tolerant of him being away all the time and him not staying on top of maintenance issues in his flat...and gave me a big bunch of carnations and roses.
This after the council surveyor came this morning to inspect the damage. He has ordered tests to see how much water is trapped in the rockwool before making a decision on what to do next.
So now waiting for someone to do the tests.
Then it will be a case of wait and see what is decided.......leave the ceilings to dry out (which with rubber and plasterboard seals, will be years and liable to mould formation) or tear down all the affected ceilings, dry out the joists and floorboards above and then install new ceilings which is a 4 to 6 week job to complete.
Rock and hard place.....soggy ceiling and mould or disruptive building work for weeks.....methinks my upstairs neighbour and his elderly lady he cares for will be supplying ALOT of apologetic flowers...
