Well I Would Like A Male Betta.

Plants will grow in either, and bettas don't much care.

I personally grow my plants in a mixture comprising 1 cm of Basic cheap Pond soil ( on the base of the tank ) topped with a couple of inches of plain aquarium sand. I find the pond soil helps the plants get off to a good start.

Ok do you know where i can get some pond soil? Will argos play sand be ok?

Any big garden centre or large LFS that sells ponds, pond plants and pond supplies should stock it. You only need a small bag and any excess you can just throw on the garden/compost heap or give to someone who wants it maybe? I just mixed the rest of mine in with normal soil in the garden.

Argos play sand is fine, loads of people use it.

Ok i will get some on fri then as i need to go through town to get to my LFS so on the way back i pick some up.

Cool idea but i think i might just try and create a moss floor and what substrate is best for my betta? i currently have gravel but which would be better for the plants to grow in sand or gravel?

It doesn't matter what the substrate is. My current planted tanks have sand. I have grown plants equally well with gravel. If you are possibly still interested in a moss wall, I have one in my current 8g setup. It wasn't done with mesh, but by sewing moss to a tank divider with fishing line, which allows the wall to be flush with the glass an it allows for easy removal for maintenance. It generated a very thick moss wall in much less time than the standard "let the moss peak out of mesh" method.

Sorry, to occupy the thread with the method, but betta tanks and moss walls go fantastic together, also shrimps will be in "hog heaven" with a setup like that.
Granted, I inject CO2 (DIY yeast) and dose ferts, but it's really nothing fancy.

Ok nice tank from the looks of the second picture. Could you look at my other thread 14.53 uk gal tank please and try and answer my questions and others.

I will try and get a pic of the tank alone but not actually set up and everything yet. Yay i finally get to go down to my LFS tommorow and stock up on fish stuff.

Would this be a rare male tri colour halmoon betta? If so it's a shame cause it's a gorgeous betta.

Would i need to make my male betta flare every now and then? If so how often exactly? Would a small mirror be ok for the job? Sorry for all the questions but i really would like to give my male betta (when i get everything right) the best i can.

What is the usual price for a male halfmoon? My mum just looked on ebay and some were selling for £10. I live in the UK so from an LFS whats the usual price?
