Warning Do Not Open If You Are Easily Offended

i can only wonder WHY ?
For money. As I said in the Hybrid section, taillessness began as a random genetic mutation and was then bred for, and the tailless fish were sold at a higher price. Pretty soon breeders started catching on and decided it was easier to simply crop the tails off the fish, being that many of the genetically tailless fish are infertile hybrids. :/

Absolutely disgusting!! and people wonder why i would quite happily see every country outside of the western world wiped of the face of the earth.

Would you like to see me wiped out? :-( The US still docks tails and ears and declaws. Never liked those practices. Humans do cruel things to their fellow creatures, from eating to fighting, to cosmetic or behavioral "adjustments". I pick my battles, and know I can't win them all.

All you can do is educate and not contribute to that market. If nobody buys a tailess fish, they can't sell them.

Every country has its few bad ones but it seems to me that far eastern countries have a tendency of cruelty to the extreem with animals (and indeed even people), the middle east and most of africa arent much better either.
Blowing them off the face of the planet is probably a bit strong but maybe rounding up as many of them as possible and cutting their feet off and keeping them in tiny cages on market stalls could educate the rest of them.

It's terrible that I found that thought quite funny...

Seriously though, western countries are equaly bad in many respects. We have puppy mills, battery hens, exotic pets, dyed fish (we are the ones who buy them after all), we breed animals that, for all intents and purposes are 'deformed' or suffer serious health problems later in life, we abandon animals, we race greyhounds and then slaughter them in the thousands, we breed animals for research and for fur etc etc etc The list goes on. I don't necessarily disagree with ALL of it (eg: there are arguments both for and against animal testing to some degree) but I do consider it cruel. Sure, countries like China skin dogs and cats and there are cruel practices like this tail-docking in fish (how weird - they don't even look natural) but, equaly, we breed mink for coats and dock the tails and ears of dogs and declaw cats. We are also responsible for the destruction of animals' habitats and that also leads to their suffering - even if it isn't direct. I don't think pollution or our population explosion can justly be pinned on any single country either. As far as I can see, going by the 'cruelty to other animals' criterion, we should blow all humans off the face of the Earth :p

I couldnt agree more :/

Same thread was started in the Hybrid section a few days ago, but guess not many people would have seen it there.

as I didn't see it there, that is an accurate stetment. ;)

I half expected this to be closed (for one reason or other) and I'm very glad it isn't.

I'd be very interested in a translation of this article, as I'm sure most of you would be too.
If anyone could help out on that, it would be very much appreciated.

Who buys these abominations anyway?

I find it hard to believe that anyone actually thinks that these fish are attractive.

Homo sapiens never cease to amaze disgust me.

Wolf, there's a translation of it on the other thread. It's basically a step-by-step guide.

ok, I can read what the site says so I will translate.

top pic: DYING METHOD 1:gather the following materials: a fish, shears/scissors, syringe (optional), goldfish dye.

pic 2: cut off tail. Don't worry if it bleeds, you are doing this because you want to. If you think its cruel, thats your fault in trying in the first place.

pic 3: cut at this angle and at this place. be sure to cut it at the flesh and not the fin.

pic 4: add coldfish color dye. (great for faking those expensive koi) This stuff is solidified and pelleted for your convenience (will dissolve when in contact with water)

pic 5: the fish will absorb the color into its blood. put back into water and repeat the color step every day.

parrot article: Wonder why parrots come in so many colors?? well they aren't natural. keep reading to see how they are made!!

parrot pic: look at these nice rainbow parrots!

injection dying: step 1: inject color into fish with syringe. step 2: get more dyes if you need other colors. step 3: since these dyes are plant based, if you have a pleco, it may start sucking the dye out of your fish. step 4-6: sit back and wait for the color to emerge

Meepster, I hope you don't mind me copying your post here, so more people can read it. Thanks for translating for everyone!

Its not right to blame the "Eastern countries" or point fingers at anyone for that matter.

Sick people are everywhere, in every country.

WOW i didnt know those tailess fish where mutations, are they illegal cos i've seen them in my LFS.

That is totally sick, how come they dont die of shock or bleed to death?

Agreed.

I'm amazed that it is so profitable that someone can create a "goldfish dye". There must be a factory in the far east actually creating the material to make this stuff.

Disgusting.
