The thing with ugf is that they suck waste under the gravel, where it decomposes and eventually leads to the tank crashing unless properly maintained, it has nothing to do with the filter breaking.

9' means nothing without the other 2 dimensions...

aint it funny how the other to posters only joined to post on this thread weird hey. You need to listen to the advice your being given. An undergravel filter 2 internals and an ehiem "that sits under the tank???? Doesn`t add up to loads of filtration I run 2 fx5`s and 2 internal eheim 2252`s with 1200lph each on my tank and I can guarantee by the setup you have you have no where near this kind of filtration setup. You tank and the way it is setup is suited to community fish when you break into the realms of Monsterfish that needs to be coupled with monstertanks and monster filtration something which you are lacking both of. Now saying you are getting a 9ft tank is pointless unless its say 9x3x3 or 9x4x3 or simular if its 9x2x2 then you cant keep anyting bigger in that tank to the tank you have now width is just as important as length.

Especially as Mbu have the capability of getting to 36"+ and Silver arownas, well CFC's is already at 39" or something righT?

Ace of Spades is very experienced. When he says a Mbu needs 4000+litres he knows they do.

you are gonna be buying big macs at kfc next LMAO :yahoo:

i do agree that the tank isnt suitable to house that stocking

Hello

Bit of constructive advice from experience with the Mbu ( a well experienced fish keeper friend of mine)

When buying a Mbu, you should NEVER EVER just buy a tank that it fits in at the time, and then move it into a bigger tank, and then move it to another bigger tank and so on and so forth

You should start out how you mean to end with these guys

Imagine a thermometer, every time you move that mbu, the thermometer goes up a little, and then again when its moved to a tank, and then up again when its moved yet again, this is basically how their stress levels rise, and eventually it will end up so stressed it will stop eating and die

Their stress level will never drop back to zero of that makes sense

So moving ur mbu again and again and again is actually making it ill

Having it stocked with the fish you have also isnt good news, and yes you are over stocked. I would bet my left arm that the reason your puffer is ill is down to poor water quality

Im not being rude at all, im just making a few points

If it were me in that situation I would rehome EVERY fish in that tank bar the puffer and keep on top of water changes to keep the ammonia down

And ace, you were slightly mean, not every1 has the knowledge you do, so try and cut her some slack, weve all made mistakes before, no one is perfect

i must say in the midst of all ace's knowledge in this thread i completely missed the fact this is the "pics" section and ummm there was a pic of the tank and 4 pages of "knowlege" im suprised this hasn't been moved yet

Did you not read the comments?, 9 foot means nothing at all, What you are essentially keeping is a monster it will need more then a 2 and 1/2 foot wide. Three and a half foot minimum tbh and thats for a grow out. If you felt that sorry for him you would give him up to someone who can keep him, and If you knew about his size already and knew about what he would be like in the future why buy the fish if the last two you had to give away anyway? Stick with fish you know that you can provide for...?
