Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

Dearest everybody,
This is supposed to be one of our light-hearted threads.
Can we just leave it at one person's unpopular opinion brought up issues at a time when society is focused on promoting sensitivity.
I can't help but feel that Rachel and Cory would be amused.

Ok lets get it back on track :) what can I add...

- Not enough people will give Cichlids a chance. They are such a diverse family of fish but people switch off very quickly without seeing the options that are out there.

- You get what you pay for with aquarium equipment - so many cheap brands available now, my local Maidenhead seems not to stock well known brands and only their own immitation brands, or brands they have negotiated the price on. For me, the quality equipment and brands are only available online which is a real problem for me as it makes the hobby less accessible and I hope the shops learn soon.

Have you ever heard of a cichlid fainting? My mum told me a story about someone they knew while they were in the aquarium trade, they had a big tank under the counter in their store, something like 200 gallons, with a huge red devil in it. But they couldn't sell it. Whenever someone was going to buy it, they'd try to catch it, the fish would faint, and the buyer would back out. Fish would wake up again and enjoy having this huge tank all to himself. They were stuck with him.

I think that catching and eating fish is both fun and healthy. (And many aquarium fish are, in fact, considered edible on their home range. But most of them are considered too small to bother with) (That last bit is a fact, not an opinion. But probably unpopular, nevertheless)

I dunno, I look at my molly like she is pretty tasty some days :p

Ive also looked at pictures of discus and thought they'd sorta be like a pancake if you cooked them

Yeah quite a few cichlids can sulk :) I've had an angel fish that would lie flat on his side every water change, really freaked me out to start with but just accepted it was his thing after a while.

Oh off topic but he (husband) was getting coffee with a colleague who asked how I am. I'm usually very involved with a political party here but he said I'm now obsessed with aquarium stuff & not as involved with the party. The colleague thought Aquarium was a new political party
