Um Is This The New Permanant Layout ?

i cant believe this topic is still going. are people still digging up items to throw at the mods. If you dont like the forum, do what i did and follow keitholms advice, change you skin back to the old one, it is slightly different but 95% the same. So much easier to work with but you still have all the new features and security protections.

i personally would rather spend an extra couple of seconds navigating, than 5 or 10 mins reporting a series of spammers that managed to get through the old protection very easily.
Lets cut the mods some slack here.

Personally, i feel this thread and other similar ones should be closed, as people are just using it as a chance to have a winge and retaliate from previous 'vendettas'. Lastly, the mods have said they are still working on it, so why not wait until it is 100% completed, - then if you dont like it or feel changes can be made, speak up.

so, in what way, is your opinion, any, more valid than that of others? you say,
then if you dont like it or feel changes can be made, speak up.
, yet deride those who do as
winge and retaliate from previous 'vendettas
. you cant have it both ways.

How will it put new members off when this is the only thing they have had, so they cannot compare it to anything?
you are assuming that new members have no experience of forums, at all. which is at best, simplistic.

No, not assuming they have no experience of "forums" but if they are new here then they obviously don't have experience of "this forum".

I am a member of so many forums, have moderated some pretty busy ones and ran my own - I have never yet seen 2 forums exactly alike. If they were then there would never be any question of where things were or how things work.
Not least there's several different software setups for forums, let alone the numerous releases (not all sites will upgrade to the newest software immediately) and countless skins and themes. Then of course there is the limitless number of modifications, tweaks and hacks to customise things even further.

even so, a forum that does not format properly, missing icons, menus that interfere with one-another, looks like a "Badly formated Forum". this is important even to a noob. perhaps, even more so, as this may be their only visit here.

I too have experience, both of modding/ membership and visiting many forums, there is a good chance, i have been doing it longer than you  :hyper:. when i first logged on to the "new" forum, it looked like it was a first try, by a child. so much so i had to check that my link had not been diverted. things have improved. believe i understand the work being done by mods and admin, for this upgrade. (my, personal, argument is as to how it was done). but nobody can pass judgment on "how it has gone" until it all works. as for its effect on membership, only admin could confirm, if there has been any.

anyway, before this gets out of hand, lol. just because, some, people have problems, with the look and implementation of the changes. does not, automatically, mean they "dont like change". its just possible, their views may have some validity.

nuff said from me. until the forum works properly.

That's why I said (at some point) for people to say what they actually disliked and why rather than just "I don't like it" - which is more often than not related to just not liking change.
You might be older than me - who knows but I was on bulletin boards before "forums" LOL

Now, I do wonder if somehow people are seeing different things. Because I personally have not yet had issues with the forum not formatting properly (barring the old quotes issue, which isn't a formatting issue relating to the upgrade being done wrong or right, but related to the new software and pretty much out of control of the admins of this site), nor with menus interferring with one another.

Like I've said before different people are going to be using different systems, so it helps if people say what the real issue is, so that the admins can look into that as it may not be happening on their systems - you can't fix what you don't know about.

Have the admin and mods learned anything from this upgrade - I expect so yes, and hindsight being the wonderful creature it is, I'll bet there are things they'd have done differently if they knew then what they know now.
Added to the fact that they are doing this in their free time for no pay. If they were being paid to do the admin, maintenance and upgrade then I'd probably have expected things to be a little more smooth. But everything is going to have it's hiccups along the way. It's how you deal with those hiccups.
And a lot of people have instantly gone "oh my god it's all changed, arrghghgh I don't like it" - being totally honest there. Yes, there have been bona fide issues that have been raised.

I hate it when the supermarket moves it's stock around. Doesn't mean it's less functional, or that my favourite items are gone - I just have to look for them a bit more. I really didn't like it when they changed all the aisles by 90 degrees - that threw me, but once I got used to it, it's actually more functional than before - like with everything you have to move past the "oh heck, what happened" stage.

At the end of the day it's still TFF and still run by the same team, patronised by the same regulars, answering the same questions...

Lastly, the mods have said they are still working on it, so why not wait until it is 100% completed

Because they could of done all this offline and just uploaded it once it was finished and working ok.

not necessarily. that could have meant the site could be down for days....

Not at all. Using an up to off line and up-to-date copy would make applying changes a whole lot easier and would reduce downtime and potential problems.

It is indeed TYO, just been and tried it - need my glasses though for it, any chance the font could be bigger?

Seffie x

changed my skin over to that but everytime you hit the back button the window doesn't load automatically and you have to refresh the page  so I will not be using that one. Its a real shame as it looks very neat

There's some sort of 'member option' box at the top of every thread that is really irritating and there doesn't seem to be any way of getting rid of it. Any ideas?
