Tricky Question

I'm a firm believer in the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Everything seems to run smoothy other than occasional issues arising from upgrades.

Live chat is far from pressing. The chat can still be accessed in more than 1 way as is described in the pinned topic. And in all honesty, with how dead chat is most of the time people probably wouldn't stay anyway. This was no different when the link still worked ... sure, there was and still is a bunch of regulars that will show up but that doesn't make a chat active :p

I completely agree with Wuv here, nothing is that pressing that it needs immediate attention. Don't forget that this is a fish forum, and nothing needs changing for it to do what it was meant to do: provide help and information to those that come looking for it.
Chat is particularly dead since the link was broken as people can't get in. Chat used to be a great way of assuring people who were worried and wanted quick advice, not possible any more.

Some things look bad. The Science/In depth forum got universal praise and lots of support from the mods, yet the idea will be cold before it ever gets here as we have to wait for one admin to be back to change it.

not necessarily. William has a Honey-do list for when he comes in, and the mods update it as needed. I'm not sure if this Science board you speak of is in there, but it couldn't hurt to bump up the thread when he's around, just in case.

gosh i never knew about the member deletion thing, must be before my time!

With that said, whatever needs to be done via admin controls can always wait for William. The mods have enough controls to tend to the immediate things while he's away. Nothing, as far as forum upgrading, is that pressing. :good:

I do agree with you wuv, things can always wait. none of the things i've mentioned are absolutely essential to the day to day running of the board, I would never claim they are.

However this section of the board (as I understand it) is for members to point out areas of weakness where we think things could be improved on. The situation at the moment is OK, it works, everything gets done eventually and the board runs smoothly day to day when William isn't here. However I think with someone else with admin rights to cover for William when he's not here things could be done quicker and more easily, and therefore better than just OK.

anyhow I'm not going o argue the point, as ever it's completely William's descision, I just really wanted to see if I was the only one who thought this and get it off my chest so to speak.

You'll have to forgive my continuous badgering for improvements, it's basically what I do for a living and my mentiality is not 'if it aint broke don't fix it', it's 'how can we make this better' :)

If there were more than one admin, we could be assured that they would log on fairly often rather than every couple months (what I concluded from another thread)

I've also noticed that most of the mods are rarely here either. The only mod that I see logged on on a regular basis is Tolak

I run a message forum and one of our rules in order to be a mod is that you have to log on at least three times a week

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of being a mod if you never log on to help run the board/help members?

Now, I'm not being rude...just stating what I have noticed :)

Some of the mods are on anonymously. I also think William is around a lot more than you may think. I just checked and it says he was last active yesterday.

Ahh gotcha :good:

fair point but he hasn't really been 'doing stuff' tbh I don't really mind that much though - unless something bad happens e.t.c.

I think it is a great suggestion Miss Wiggle and I applaud you for having the guts to bring it up. I never once got the impression that you were making this out to be a huge problem, but simply like you said an improvement that can be made. I don't understand why people are actually challenging it. It reminds me of a when I took my CLEP test for English Composition, my essay topic was "One thing that is true of new ideas, they will be opposed." It doesn't matter how good they are or how much they can improve things, some people are just completely resistant to change.

Now the only problem I can see with this is finding someone who William can actually trust with these controls, and who would also be interested. Either way I just wanted to say that I think it would be a good idea!

thanks

it's very true, change control and improving service delivery is a massive part of my job so it's what i do anyway. i'm quite used to a bit of opposition!

it's a big choice if William wants to hand over some responsibility and ultimately not a descision any of us can make for him. although i'll admit i would like to know if William's actually aware of this topic and has any input.

I must agree that adding the sections on is not what I would call 'urgent'. However, for the sake of our members, I have posted a 'honey do' reminder in our mod section for William with reminders for the following:
-A science forum
-Disease journal area
-repair of the chat room
-for marine, a journal subforum area.
