ummmmm awkward question this and i certainly don't wanna offend William, hope you just take this as constructive criticism

but i was just wondering why with 26451 members and about 15 mods why is there only 1 admin on this site?

i think the number of moderators is appropriate and in general arguments and spam are dealt with quickly and efficiently. And I understand why 1 person should have overall veto on suggestions and developments to the board, and ultimately the board is Williams responsibility, but it seems sometimes when things are broken (like live chat) or suggestions that we are told will be processed (like the science/in depth forum) it takes forever to actually get done.

i appreciate William's had exams recently so needed some time out, but would it not possibly be wise to give one of the mods admin powers so if William gives the go-ahead to an idea there's someone he can delegate the work to if he hasn't the time to do it himself? Or maybe appoint someone who isn't a mod but is a bit of a computer geek (come on we know theres a few of you out there!) who can do the technical stuff freeing up what time William does have to make more strategic descisions

or am I just too impatient! ;) :)

I agree, no rudeness intended, but it would be useful to have kind of "deputy" administrators. On other fish forums ive seen they have much less members but have about 3 admin.

At the moment with Williams exams all suggestions are having to be put on hold, and in general it can take a while for suggestions and PMs to get through to him anyway :/

I think it would make it easier for everyone.

phew glad i'm not the only one, felt like a bit of a cow posting that you know!

From personal experience on other forum's there comes a point where the workload gets to much and more admins are needed... however I must say the Mods and Admin do a great job here as it's very tidy and very little spam....except for my posts the site's spam free :D

absolutely, i think the day to day running of thiS site is excellent and we don't need any more moderators IMO, it's more from the technical side and changing things, the admin work as opposed to modding that I feel there is a deficiency

I don't really think it's up to us non-mods to decide whether we need more mods or not. I mean, sure, we don't see much spam or rule breaking that isn't fixed right away, but for all I know the mods could be putting hours into that. So maybe a few more mods would lessen their work load a little bit.

hey just my opinion, if the mods feel they're working too hard i'm sure they can speak up for themselves, as a forum user i do not often see things not dealt with quickly enough so i see no need for more mods.

lets not get into a discussion about mods though as this really isn't the issue at hand, i only mentioned it in the first place to clarify that it's not more moderators that I think we need but more people with administration rights.

i believe that there were originally 2 (or 3) admins... however, one of them took offense with some of the newer members one day and deleted about half of the roster. :dunno: perhaps a case of "once bitten, twice shy?"

lmao....I bet that was one funny day in the mods lounge.

I remember once something about a member deletion but I thought it was technical and not intentional. Or maybe I'm thinking of somewhere else. Either way, that would be enough to give William second thoughts if an admin went "rogue" on him.

Actually, quite the opposite. It was extremely stressful.

With that said, whatever needs to be done via admin controls can always wait for William. The mods have enough controls to tend to the immediate things while he's away. Nothing, as far as forum upgrading, is that pressing. :good:

Live chat is far from pressing. The chat can still be accessed in more than 1 way as is described in the pinned topic. And in all honesty, with how dead chat is most of the time people probably wouldn't stay anyway. This was no different when the link still worked ... sure, there was and still is a bunch of regulars that will show up but that doesn't make a chat active :p

I completely agree with Wuv here, nothing is that pressing that it needs immediate attention. Don't forget that this is a fish forum, and nothing needs changing for it to do what it was meant to do: provide help and information to those that come looking for it.
