The tetras are doing okay today. I'm looking after them and will do a water change with my carer when she comes. I will feed them again half an hour after the water change. I will focus on the bigger tank for my cardinals later after I have done the 10 litre. I understand that there are unfair deals I have to deal with, but I'm trying to get my end of the bargain. After I watched the TV show earlier, I watched one of the dogs, who has ACL injuries on both of her back legs. Saw a nice paludarium on TV and wanted to know how many gallons the paludarium was. But darn it, the specifications of the paludarium wasn't even mentioned... Nevermind, the paludarium looked nice anyways. I don't know why they don't mention the specifications of some aquaria and paludaria.

Everything is okay today, just doing constant research about fish and reading profiles on Seriously Fish and Aquadiction. I am a young grasshopper and I am patient now.

Following users' advice is the real best medicine for me.

Broke my parents' deal again... But we're not talking about that. Chameleon shrimp cost $6 each at a LFS and Darwin algae shrimp $5 at a pond shop. The shop did not have algae shrimp in stock, but hopefully they will get them back in stock. The aquarium shops of Perth cannot get cherry and other popular aquarium shrimp because they breed fast when put in a pond and may take over our local environment and if they do sell them, the Fisheries department will give them fines. That's why native shrimp are sold instead. I pick chameleon shrimp because they're more common than algae shrimp. That means Caridinas are more common than Neocaridinas in Perth.

Never heard of chameleon shrimp they look interesting though. It's good though that the shops in Perth know that cherry and other neocaridina can be an issue especially if released into local waters. Australia has some amazing and beautiful native species that need to be maintained and kept from loss of habitat. In my local area, signal crayfish are one of the problems we have. Our native species White-clawed crayfish are being outcompeted by the signal crayfish that were introduced from America.

I redid the 10L aquascape vision and it looks like this:

I only wanted small plants because I don't know about putting larger, taller plants in the tank.

I also want to save space for the shrimp in the tank. It probably has 3 to 3.5cm high of gravel substrate at the bottom of the tank.

Virtually all shrimp will pick at algae and there is no such thing as an algae shrimp, it's advertising from pet shops. If you want some shrimp, either collect some from a creek or buy 10 glass shrimp from a pet shop. They sell them as feeder shrimp.

I don't know, but Vebas did tell me last time about if they break the rules when selling cherry, amano or glass shrimp, they will get fined by the Fisheries department for doing so. There is a native shrimp in Northern Queensland and Western Australia called Caridina sp NT nilotica, which is often called algae shrimp. Fish shops don't sell feeder glass shrimp either due to the ban.

If you don't mind saying it, what is the deal that you have with your parents? What are the terms and the requirements that you have to follow? It's okay if you'd prefer not to talk about it, you don't have to, but I'm curious because you've mentioned the deal a few times before and I realized that I don't actually know what restrictions you're under. It could potentially be helpful to know because it might influence what advice us TFF members give you about your tanks.

I'm sorry it's so frustrating Parents can definitely be that way sometimes. Personally, I don't believe in the attitude of "their house their rules", so I'm not going to tell you to just suck it up and deal with it. The house is not just your parents' house. It's your house too, and it can be really upsetting when parents don't understand or respect that. Children don't have a choice about where they live, after all, so they should be able to have a say about what happens in their house too. So, I'm sorry your parents are so strict.

However, it's true that you currently don't have the power to change your parents' rules. It's unfortunate. My advice to you is to try your very best to not be outwardly hostile towards your parents. I know that's really difficult, and is easier said than done, but the reason I give the advice is because if you continue to be hostile towards them, they will be less likely to change their minds about rules and restrictions. It's also possible that they might loosen restrictions a little bit once they see you making improvements in your tank maintenance skills. As we've all been saying, all you need to do is continue to try your best. I hope things become easier in your household.

Vebas just told me that any non-native freshwater shrimp aren't allowed due to biosecurity laws that are in place in our state. Only WA native shrimp/captive bred natives are allowed to be sold in fish stores here. I told them why they aren't allowed, and they replied because they aren't. You can only see non-natives in the eastern states.
