Tigrinus And Pearls

sorry to say mate you need to do some resurch before you say they get to big

the tiger shovelnose you posted in the link can grow to 4ft+

this is a totally diffrent fish you would be lucky to give a tiger shovelnose away

this type of M.tigrinus only grow to 24-26inch max and one that size would cost you £400-500

I was referring to Merodontus Tigrinus - it's further down the page on the right hand side.

Maybe I should have made that clearer in my post.

I agree re the Pseudoplatystoma fasciatums being ungiveawayable (made up word, i know) - there are always loads of them and RTCs on Aquarist Classified that just stay there for ages... nobody wants them. Such a shame but then not many people have massive tanks like you and Cane that the rest of us all dream of

Are you saying I cant house the fish???

I assume that question was directed at me.
If so, the answer to you is no.
Most of the regulars on this forum know there are only 4 or 5 people on this site (yourself included) that have tanks that are suitably large enough to house such big fish. The point I was getting at was that it's a shame there are other fish keepers out there who buy big predatory catfish etc at 6 or 8" with no thought for their long term care.
I certainly wasn't knocking you, T1K or Cane - I think your tanks are amazing and your fish (including the fantastic Tig in this thread) are obviously well cared for and the rest of us can just keep dreaming.... in my case, I keep dreaming that my wife will wake up one day and say "D'you know what Justin, I really think you should go out and buy a 900 gallon tank" :D  but in reality, I know it aint gonna happen!!!

lol ok mate i know what you mean i get sick and tired of seeing monster fish in peoples tanks and the people have no clue what they have got them selves in to. Although the majority of the big fish you see in small tanks are cheaper fish silver aros, pacu, red tailed cats and true tsn i think if people fork out £££'s on fish then they end up thinking twice although not always the case.

thats right these catfish are lucky in that respect, because they are pricey to import most lfs wont bother
i dont think ive ever seen one in a shop in 3 years of touring london

at this moment in time i dont think me,mark or cane chould house a Tiger shovelnose or a Red tail cat they need massive tanks

i have had a near full grown tig 22inch in my tank and it fit just fine so cane and mark shouldnt have any problems in their tanks

the 2 stripes at the front of mine are forking at the bottom

should be fine in the big tank now

the only problem i have is the rays love to chew off the tail streamers but they grow back fast

the other fish hardly showed any interest, the aro came down a few times to have a close look but thats it

My tig was out swimming around earlier so I thought I would take advantage and get some pics. You can see by its markings that they are perfect one side and crazy the other seems like best of both worlds im intreagued to see how they will turn out.
