Third Time Lucky I Hope

Your bronze Corys should easily adapt to either the higher temps preferred by the C. sterbai ( 24-28 c.) or the lower temps preferred by the C. schwartzi (22-24 c.) One issue could be the C. sterbai reputation for hybridizing. Although I have not experienced it. I don't keep my oversexed C. aeneus with them either. lol

lol

well i couldent decide wich ones to get so i fliped a coin and im going with the C,schwartzi, :good:
so im going to order then next week

Hi drewry :)

ill let you all know if i have any joy when i get up

BTW, drewery, I think it is considered kosher to go off topic in your own thread. It is others who are not suppose to drag the OP's thread off topic. It can be most annoying. A pet peeve of mine especially if it includes trolling and flaming.

Waiting to hear on the babies. Did you use antifungal with this batch? I had some problem determining what was being tested in this batch. I have never used meth blue, although others here do regularly. I do occasionally use an anti fungal. It may perhaps stop the non viable eggs from infecting the viable ones. Tolak wonders if hard water increases the chance of fungus. This I do not know either. LOL There are lots of things I don't know!

I had some cory eggs hatch after 2 weeks so don't chunk them if they don't have fungus. They may still do something. :good:

hi ICEEGRL

the problem iv been haveing is that this is my 4th batch now
the 1st batch hatched around 60 hours but i lost them to my air pump breaking ,
the last 2 batches every thing goes ok up to about 70 hours even with methblue then they all go white

Yes ICEEGRL really has been through it with the eggs. I think hers went white and still hatched! LOL

I have had several go white and still hatch! If you are afraid of infecting others or something you can separate them, but don't chunk them. 2 of the fry I have right now had a fair amount of fungus going on, but they still hatched and grew. All 4 of the ones I have now had gone white and took 2 weeks to hatch.

I was putting the eggs in a net in the tank. When they went white I would suck them out with a turkey baster and drop them in the tank. Then I just left them there to float or blow where ever. It turned out that the only ones that lived were the ones I just dropped in the tank.
I kept an eye on them so I would know if I needed to start feeding them. I always start feeding very lightly the second day. Then gradually feed a little more each day.
I have a shrimp hatchery that I keep the eggs in with meds for the first 3 to 4 days now.(this keeps them from getting fungus) Then I drop them in the tank to hatch. I am not sure how well it is going to work, but I figured it was worth a try. I will know very soon. I have some eggs about to get moved to the tank. I know it does stop the fungus.
I lost a lot of batches before I got any to hatch too.

I hope these hatch and live for you. :good:

im conditioning my bronze corys and iv had them spawning every week like clock work so should have some more eggs by monday
so this time ill keep the eggs for 2 weeks like you sugest thxs for the info ICEEGRL :good:

You really need to try a egg tumbler. They work really well for keeping the fungus away. You can get a cheap shrimp hatchery. It does the same thing.
If you leave them in the tank like I do... watch them closely. If they go flat they aren't good... and slime isn't good either.

I have a step by step with pics somewhere on here about how to build one. It is very easy. What isn't easy is finding it. I can't work the search thing on here. I never find what I am looking for.

Are you sure they were fertile? That can cause them to fungus everytime.
Another thing is that you have to understand that they have to figure out what they are doing. She may not be doing something right. She may need more practice.
I went through a lot of eggs and heartache before my female figured out how to leave me good eggs.

hi ICEEGRL

im allmost certain they are fertile i can see black dots forning inside the good ones this is the 4th time they have spawned the first ones hatched i got 57 fry from them put them in a floating container with a air stone.
then my air pump broke during the night and they was all dead in the morning apart from 5 wich died soon after  they hatched in 2 and a half days .
and all the eggs since then havent.
it all goes well up to 3 days then the good eggs seem to go white and go fungust

ill have a look on ebay for a hatchery :good:

Hi drewry,

If your corys are healthy and your tank water is in good condition with adequate air circulation, you shouldn't have to take any extraordinary measures to get live fry. There is something going wrong here, and when this kind of thing happens it's almost always something simple that has been overlooked.

Right now your fish have had several batches running and are probably a little tired. Please try to rest them a bit while we work through possible problems. Just feed them well and do nothing to encourage them to spawn. This includes adding cool water or doing large water changes. If they are in cool water, and it's possible to raise it gradually to the warmer end of their range, that would help too.

Then you can look at the situation objectively and try to figure out what is going on.

hi Inchworm

i was actually thinking of giveing them a good rest to see if that was the problem
i know its in the best intrest of the fish like you say they are probly tired and not haveing time to build them selfs up

i have got them in the warmer end of the range now anyway wich iv been doing
over the last 3 days not to stress them to mutch.
im feeding them up on pellit, flake, frozen brine shrimp, blood worm and dafnia,
every things sopt on in the tank i always hover uneated foods up in the morning and ill add warm water not cold like you say
wich is about 10% after hovering the substrate.

like you said Inchworm they are probly worn out so i wont incourage them to spawn for at least 3 weeks now :good:

Hi drewry :)

I think it's good that you are going to give them a rest. It might also be best to not feed them so much that you have to vacuum daily. Just the regular influx of fresh water might set them off.

BTW, I don't remember how many males and females you have. Would you please post it again.
