Well i cant make my mind up now! A single Wrasse will be fine on their own?

All according which wrasse it is, some lose colour if they do not have some girls around to flirt with. Which one you thinking of?

Its between Filamented Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus filamentosus) or Sunset Wrasse (Thalassoma lutescens) or Scott's Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus scottorum)

well the filameted will be fine, was going to look up the other as some of that genus get very large - but  just realised Trod has gone off with my fish book.........................

ah ha, thought the name was familiar - i looked into those:

saltwater species that are found in the areas of Coral Sea and Tonga, north to southern Japan, Sri Lanka, south to south eastern Australia. The behavior of Sunset Wrasse (male) is normally aggressive with other tank mates. Sunset Wrasse (male) is not reef compatible.

Sunset Wrasse (male) should reside in an 80 gallon or larger aquarium, with other aggressive tank mates, and plenty of rocks for hiding. (male) often loves rock with many places for them to hide in at night or when frightened as they do not bury in the sand. Sunset Wrasse (male) will become territorial and harass any new additions to the community therefore Sunset Wrasse (male) should be added last to the tank. It may be kept with a mate, if the aquarium is 125 gallons or larger. Sunset Wrasse (male) needs plenty of swimming room and will harass new fish introduced to the tank if they are smaller or close in shape.

(male) has a natural diet consists of fish, crustaceans, motile invertebrates, and worms. The diet in an aquarium should include a variety of feeder shrimp, marine flesh, frozen meaty preparations for carnivores, and flaked foods. Sunset Wrasse (male) may eat mantis shrimp and bristle worms. It does not eat corals or live plants.

(male) is easy to take care of and can be handled by a moderately trained aquarist. It is a medium maintenance fish and is not reef compatible. They do not have any specific swimming level but need lot of space to swim. Hence needs a large aquarium. (male) is not reef compatible.

Maximum Size: (male) grows up to 12 inches

General Size Specifications: The small size will come to you generally 1 to 2 inches; the medium generally 3 to 4 inches; the large generally 5 to 6 inches.

Minimum Tank Size: The Sunset Wrasse (male) prefers a tank of at least 80 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim. Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F).

Habitat: Range: the Coral Sea, Tonga

Feeding and Diet:Sunset Wrasse (male) is a carnivore and likes to eat Variety of meaty treats including frozen mysis, saltwater feeder shrimp, squid, scallop clam and other crustaceans.

My Filamented flasher is on his own, still colourful. Not sure on Thalassoma genus, Ski is your man for them, not sure if they are reef safe though, may have to forgo snails and crabs and shrimp with that one.

Thanks Guys (Girls!)

Ok so between the Flasher and the Fairy. Unless you guys can come up with other options.

Funny enough, both Ben and I are are currently looking for a stunner from one of these families, it is more a case of which comes along first, then grab it

ps unless you are Tina of course :p

I just used the facility of checking what was on the TMC list and ordering what I wanted off it. Chose between two in the flesh. Worked out well.

I do drop on some stunners though, there is a very nice McCoskers in my LFS ATM that I was tempted by, until I saw my female mandy.

OMG :hyper:  i do like the Paracheilinus mccoskeri. Why does it have to be this hard

As long as they are different colours, you can get away with more than one male. Many people have done it before, I have to say, once the 6ft is up and running, I will have more. Will see if I can get some females for my male but may go down the different male route.

Seffie, yes I do like to tease.

Would a pair be ok in a 55G?

If you are talking male female, you need more than one female. Will eat into your stocking.

If you are talking 2 totally different males, that should be OK.

Are you having a sump??

Only thing is, 1 will become more dominant, the less dominant one will reduce its colours in deference to the dominant.
Whichever is the favourite, the one you want to be colourful, needs to be added first.

Ok thanks Tiger!

So stocking looks like this:

Fish
5 Neon Gobies (Elacatinus oceanops)
2 Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris)
1 Royal Gramma (Gramma loreto)
1 Yellow Tang (Zebrasoma flavescens)
1 Filamented Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus filamentosus)

Inverts
4 Turbo Snails (Turbo fluctosa)
2 Scarlet Hermit Crabs (Clibanarius tricolor)
2 Dwarf Blue-leg Hermit Crab (Paguristes cadenati)
1 Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis)
1 Ruby Brittle Star (Ophioderma rubicundum)

Corals & Polyps
1 Green Star Polyp (Clavularia viridis)
1 Toadstool Leather (Sarcophyton sp.)
1 Blue Mushroom (Actinodiscus sp.)
1 Red Mushroom (Actinodiscus sp.)
1 Kenya Tree (Capnella sp.)

Would a 240 be big enough to have some Neon Gobies and 1 Randalls Goby (Amblyeleotris randalli)?
