Hey Lovelies!

A video of my Platy fry that I put on YouTube earlier...

Yes I want more than 24 watts, but it's the quality of the solarmax that people are talking about that troubles me.

If money is no option then go for the Coralife.

It's easily the most sleek looking unit & it has true 30 inch bulbs where the Current version has a 30 inch unit but 24 inch bulbs. Both include the legs, but the Coralife Legs are just a bit more sturdy IMO. I have both of these units & I favor the Coralife. One major consideration is the fact that the CurrentUSA is available with 1 Daylight & 1 Colormax, where the Coralife has 1 Daylight & 1 Actinic. The Actinic made my tank look very yellow, especially the plants. My bright red Cherry Barbs males were dark bown/burgundy colored under that light. You will pay more for the Coralife & you will need to change one of the bulbs to a pink if you want the "freshwater effect."

It doesn't seem flimsy?

Are you planning to use yours as a jack stand?

I have a SolarMax...

Does it fit into your stock hood?

No it's not flimsy, and I don't have it in a hood, I have it sitting on a glass cover

Cool video, looks like a lot of current in there though, like a lil washing machine for fish!

It's because they were right next to the airstone, it's not from the filter  I switch the airstone off at night so they can sleep

Pictures? How would you rate the reflector?

I'd say the reflector's are very good, they round out the light :good:

That's a great looking fixture and a good amount a light from a single bulb too. If MoF doesn't have plants that require high lighting he should probably go with that unit. I would.

Can you give exact measurements of yours, front to back especially, so he can see if it will work with his hood? Did it come with any legs to suspend it above the tank?

Hey Lovelies!!!!

Well, I know what I was supposed to do tonight, looks like I am not going into the big city..

So I shall sit on my couch, drink beer and watch The Jersey Shore until 10pm.. or so I has heard..

No legs, but a glass screen protecting the bulb. It's a T5 fixture.
I'll measure it tomorrow, I'm sleepy :zz

I don't know. It's a very tough decision.

It's $25-30 bro, you're not buying a car. If you decide to upgrade the lighting you can keep it for a spare or sell it on craigslist. Now man up & get your tank a light. Whatever one you get will be better than a stock T8 fixture - guaranteed.

Let me warn you:
More light can mean more algae growth. It can also make your plants require more ferts and/or Co2. I'm going to start dosing liquid Co2 this weekend because I've noticed some slight wilting in the 2 tanks that have high lighting & ferts. The 20 I keep low tech with anubias and a bit of Wisteria.

Moving up from 15 watts to 24 watts probably won't change much. There, you have your excuse to get the single T5 Solarmax.

Hey Lovelies!!!!

They (MT-We)aired season two last night.. Looks like I either mist or forgot the last episode of that season.. Got aboot half way through then I had to go to bed..

I ain't no spring chicken anymore.. The last couple days I was working on a Temptronics Thermostream 4300B.. What happened was it wouldn't boot up.. Determined that the bios was bad.. Fixed the bios issue, got the machine to boot up, now I had to calibrate it..

Juss so everyone knows even though the machine is off, there is still 250 volts ac on the terminal block where CB4 and CB5 are.. Instead of hasing high powered contactors the manufacturer decided to let 250 volts sit on the terminal block.. I wouldn't has designed the tool like that, but then again I am not an engineer, I am merely a tech.. anyhoo... all that twisting and squatting that I had to do whilst working on this thing destroyed my legs.. My legs are still sore.. but that's why I mist the second half of the last Jersey Shore episode..

Best news I heard in a while.. Thursday night is a two hour episode!!!!1

Hey Lovelies!!!

Besides the aches and pains as well as an expanding waistline how do you know when you're getting old???

answer: college chicks call you sir.. just kidding.. when you pull a hair out of your ear.. that happened today... for the record, I hasn't had a college chick give me the time of day, much less talk to me since 1997..

Ahhhh, Heather.. I remember her fondly..
