I got my filter fixed!! Mikey helped me out and now it is working swimmingly. Now I only have to worry about my mother's brutal home inspection. She will hate all my aquaria, but I don't care because all of my filters function!

RCA - wow that's a lot of balls! (Moss) I usually treat them like I do with plants, give em a darn good rinse under the tap and then let them sit in a bucket of water

Yes, well I have a lot of tanks remember

Plus I got some for some friends, so 5 gone already.  Oh, and I got two free (tiny though), so actually I now have 17 left!
I sat them in some de-chlorinated water and squeezed them a few times, they are still soaking as I have maintenance to do before adding them to the tanks.

What was your filter?  Glad it is fixed, well done Mikey.

LOL re: mother's brutal home inspection, it encourages us to tidy up but it is never at 100% satisfaction is it...sadly my mum passed away so in many ways I wish she did still come and inspect

Can't wait for more pics with the sand in etc.

Filter is a penguin 100. It came with the tank.

I'm sorry to hear about your mother. Mine likes to breathe down my neck. I'm the only one in the house encouraged to clean, too. My sister does not seem worried about the fact that her dishes are everywhere.

I'll take another video soon.

Just had a look at that filter, not seen one like that before, will be interesting as to how you get on with it.  Can you do a video of it in action when it is up and running?

Thanks about my mum, we all miss her, but alas that is sadly part of life.

Look forward to seeing the dragon coming alive ;)

Alright, parents are gone! I'm filling up a ten gallon as we speak. The pH was super high, as it turns out, because of the rocks that were in it. We have the sand in, and we are now filling it with water.

I'll post a video in a few moments. I'll be sure to include some footage of the filter itself. My water is much less cloudy now, so it should be all good in the hood tomorrow. I'm making the video tonight though, just for you, RCA. ;)

Ooh I'm looking forward to this - nothing exciting on TV tonight so fish forum it is and attibones betta set up video :D

I'm uploading the video to YouTube now. It's taking a million years, but it should be done soon. Glad you're excited, Shelster. :)
Hopefully it will be done soon. I've got some homework I have to do (stupid college), and then I'm driving twenty minutes to this pet shop where they keep snails and live plants and such. I'm hopefully going to pick up some new plants and a couple of snails.

I second this, although for the UK type of college... not university (yet)

Looking forward to the video!

Planted! I'm getting more in the mail for all my plants, so I may add a few more. I have been trying all day to uploa the video but it is not doing well. It's forty percent uploaded using YouTube capture. It's stupid. However, the floating plan is a wort (hornwort?). There are also anubias nana, java fern, dwarf hair grass, and water wisteria. I'm not really sure how to make the floating plant look magnificent so I have just let it do its own thing. It looks spectacular floating in my 55.

What?
I thought uni and college were the same thing only Americans call it college and everybody else calls it uni?

Plants are looking great btw. Are you thinking of mosserizing that dragon?

Have you checked the impeller and it's housing? They sometimes get gummed up. Need to be checked monthly ideally
It's all looking very good so far attibones! Mine has faltered with a couple of spectacular pH crashes, but have just been told that is not unusual with fishless cycling esp with soft water (which I have). I've been shooting for the moon and waiting for 12 hr clearances, but only achieving it in 18-24 hrs. Am hoping that a single male betta will produce less ammonia than I'm dosing to (2ppm) Does anyone know how much ammonia they do produce?
EDIT: Ooooops I missed a whole page - was referring to the filter not working waaaay back! lol

Just a quick peak at my tank as of this morning. The bubble wall is just for the cycling period and will be removed before the betta arrives. Not sure about the "pink" stones at the front - they might have to go. Am planning to plant to hide the filter, blue-light strip and heater but haven't got that far yet. Told you it was boring! lol

Attibones - it's looking good, and although I love the natural look. That dragon is fast growing on me making me want to get one :D

Mamashack - nice tank! I'd probably do away with the pink stone and plant more plants in the space :D

I'm with you on the pink stones Shelster - they were free with a purchase tho so had to give them a try! lol
Am going to look at some plants this afternoon.

In America, we call everything college, but there are significant differences between our colleges and universities. For example, we have junior college (trade school, associate degrees), technical college (trade school, associate degrees, more specific than junior college), university (four years+, broad degrees), and within each university are separate colleges (I'm in college of English and literature, but we also have business college, languages, art, etc). Does that make sense?

Oh! Yeah, I'm going to put the moss on today. When I went to pick up my snails and plants, I forgot to get amazon sword and more java moss, but I will get those soon enough. I'm taking some of my moss from my 55. I'm also thinking about taking out some of the hornwort in this tank and adding it to the 55. It looks a little crowded to me today.

I definitely like the wood you have in your tank. Is that real? What is it? I think your tank is coming along. You just need some tall plants in the back there. I kind of like those pink rocks. They're interesting anyway. Maybe they would do well positioned differently?
