Nope no increase in protein skimmer. stats all fine.

Never thought of that Bae, do they do that?

not much chance of a volitans being in the sand trod..more likely in rocks...if you take away all the finnage , young lions are very skinny little beggars and can squeeze into very small spaces...if you had amphipods, etc in your system he will be able to survive on these at night time....can take up to a week or two to start feeding after being added to their new homes.

I you have had no increase in skimmate (bear in mind mine went mad just from a flasher wrasse) and the water is all testing OK, I cannot see how it could have died.

I would expect an increase in skimmate for sure and perhaps some increase in Nitrate or something.

totally agree with the above which leaves two options:

1. he's still in the tank and the little blighter has found himself a ###### good hiding spot

2. he's out of the tank. I know you have a closed lid but is he up on the glass ledges around the top or in between the lights and the reflectors?

Fingers crossed for ya

Rob

I've had all the lights etc. out.
Well I'm going to hang on to some hope that he may come out soon, That would be absolutely brilliant :hyper:

Received the Zoa's from Rob this morning, they are lovely and came out straight away. Thank you Rob :flowers:

well i sore my fuzzy half beried once and he was like 1.5-2 inches big

then i thought the worst went up to the tank and he swam out and was fine

Thank you for your kind words guys and gals.

Ski, I am as stumped as you, all my other fish are fine, eating well and very active, I have also put some zoa's, a recordea and a toadstool in there and they are doing well too.

I really don't understand it

I recently sat down with some "old salties" in my local club. Guys who have been doing this for decades each about a similar personal issue. In my own tank, I've never been able to keep a Kole tang alive. Despite the fact that i should, have plenty of algae, feed nori, etc etc, both times I've tried one it's contracted ich after about 3 weeks and perished. Never spread to the rest of my fish, and nothing else has ever had a problem.

When I asked them why, one of the old salties, Dave, who runs a marine commercial setup and maintenance business (dentists office tanks, etc) and has kept his own reef for about 20 years now said, "you know I've never been able to explain it, but some tanks just can't keep some fish. I've had customer tanks in which I couldn't keep Chromis alive, no matter how many I put in there, they just kept dying. Every other fish was fine, but the chromis never took there. Same thing in many other tanks with Tangs, Wrasses, you name it, whatever the reason some tanks just dont do well for some fish. So my advice to you (me in this case), is to try a different fish, cause it'll probably never work for you."

Wish I had a better answer for you Trod, but that's the best I've got

Thanks Ski, its very interesting to hear that, if a little difficult to take :-( but to be honest, I really couldn't cope with losing a third lion, so I think I shall give up gracefully. take your advice and look at other fish :good:

Yes, I have some zoa's, a ricordea and a toadstool in there at the moment going to get some more Zoa's, ricordea's and some mushrooms. Going to stick with softies until I upgrade the lighting
