The Indecisive Journal Of Trod's 5 Footer

Trod you are never goin to guess what my LFS had in todays delivery, well you might,

A juvenile Volitans and a juvenile antennata. Add to that a fuzzy dwarf, and 4 captive Bred sea horses, but those you probably won't be interested in.

Not only that she got a large regal angel, stunning. There was a small emperor too. She had a gorgeous lipstick tang and so many others I lost track.

No Mandarins this time though, typical now I am on the hunt for a nice fat frozen eating male. Maybe next week.

 How can you tease me like that, It's a good job Mr Trod is at work, and has taken the car or I might be tempted to make a trip

LFS i was in yesterdau had a radiata lionfish. ABSOLUTELY STUNNING

i'm really envious of you being able to have a tank with these stunning creatures in.

Trod, I could not see them and not tell you about them, they were about 4" across including the spines and just adorable. I cannot see them going that quickly, if you really wanted them I can tell you the address of the shop. It is off junction 31a M6. I could also give you the phone number, if you wanted to phone about them. I am sure if you needed time to get up here, if you phoned you could reserve them. Tell her Tina told you they were there.

If they really are that rare by you, it may be worth a journey to fetch them, it would just be whether you could do that journey, I would think you were looking at 4 1/2 - 5hrs. The shop is open till 4pm on sundays too.

Thanks T. 4 to 5 hours is a bit of a trek even for me and seffie
I just have to be patient, I can ask my LFS to order them, but I really want to see before I buy.

I don't blame you wanting see them. I just never know with you and Seffie how much of a trek you are prepared to do. If they are still there when I go next (mom chemo week this week so will be a week on Monday, Unless Andrew takes me next weekend) I will try to get some photos for you.

I could not believe it when they were in bags, and I asked what they were, shen then said volitans in the top tank and down here antennata. I thought, oh my god just what Trod wants.

They came from TMC so I am sure if anywhere by you uses them, they could be ordered easily for you.

That would be great thank you.

Yes my LFS use TMC, if I can't find any then I will order them :good:

you could always get tiger to buy them and then mail them to you (not sure with marine) and give tiger money for em but no garentee

I have a rather nasty outbreak of black algae, it looks like black hair algae over the LR and black diatoms over the sand, I syphoned a lot of it out but it has just come back on the sand, it looks awfull, I did a google search for it, but could only find info on freashwater black algae.

Phosphate is .03

Can anyone help?

Trod, I have been looking through my back issues of Ultra Marine magazine this afternoon. In Issue 6 Oct/Nov 2007 there is an article on BGA written by Bob Fenner, in it he states that BGA can be in all colours from Brown, BLACK, Red, green and even purple.

I had the red and your description of it coming back almost immediately afterwards fits with what my cyano was doing.

Best control was keeping phosphates and Nitrates down as much as possible, hoovering it with syphon and less food and light.

Hope that helps

Thank you T. Why I didn't think of that, I don't know, suppose I thought Cyanobacteria was just red

I have syponed the sand again this morning and I am going to reduce the lighting, I will move powerheads down a bit, and keep fingers crossed :good:
