The Adventures Of A Marine Newbie...

Thanks Ben! I am loving these stages of newness and planning with the excitemetn of buying the stock for it. Half of me can't wait for it to be 'just right' and half of me doesn't want this stage to end

lol yeah I get the same. I have a bit of an addiction to setting up new tanks I think. Its nice to have one completed so you can sit back and watch it but I like being able to do new things with it.

Once you get your stock levels up you will start looking at things like adding sumps, fuges, reactors, etc :) Thats what I like about marines, there is always some new toy you can play with :)

You could deffo say I have been addicted to starting up new tanks...at one stage prior to the decision to turn to the Dark Side I had 9 fw/bw tanks running! I felt it only right to condense down to 4 fw and 1 brackish to compensate for the marine expenses

I need to get the superglue gel out again tonight! Ricordea number 2 decided to take a leap of faith last night too. I think a brittle starfish tickled his bum too much

Ooh that doesn't sound too good now I read it back  I meant that the starfish lives in the rock he was on and I noticed legs sticking out from under the ric the other day     :ninja:

I've been shopping again

I went out for some water and came home with a sand conch snail thus named Hooter because it has a big hooter  I wanted a snail to turn the sand over.

I also got a stunning Green Galaxy coral as I want to start thinking about the mid to upper levels and needed something 'wavy', and I have a gorgeous green coral goby who I fell in love with when I got the clowns

So, would you like to see pics?

wow that goby is a stunner, not seen one of those in the flesh before though. Think id end up taking one home too

I love those Conchs, saw a orange shelled one yesterday with brown spots look awesome,i think they call them Spirata..not sure.

Am I mad getting a galaxy coral for my nano? I was informed that it needed to be kept apart from others, hence it's in the top of the tank and at the moment there isn't anything around it, but on further reading I am told/feeling like it's a monster underneath the beauty of it all

Anyone? No opinions? Think I'm going to see if I can take the Galaxy back tbh as I think it may be a bit too aggressive for my small tank

Dont know anything about it Im afraid. Would be a shame to take it back though as its very pretty. From what I have read they are easy to keep but to have a powerful sting so as long as you can leave enough space around it you will be ok.

That's what I was told Barney.

It is a lovely coral indeed, but I'm concerned that it may limit how much I can put in the tank now that's near it. I shouldn't have bought it without researching it myself first really, although I was told about it's sweeper tentacles and keeing it apart from others  A lesson learned, even though I'd like to keep it. I think I will save corals like that for a larger tank in the future :look:

Mind you if I can't return it then I may have to keep it in there

After speaking to the shop where I bought it I am going to keep hold of it for now :D

I really like it and have been given a few extra pointers about positioning, but am able to take it back for a swap if I am not happy within the next few weeks :D
