The Adventures Of A Marine Newbie...

Last night I was officially at the end of my proverbial tether with this little b*gger!
I moved him YET AGAIN to a low down bit of rock in the hope he'll have enough of his wanderlust and stay put. But no! He 'moved' again. He folded himself up and the next thing I knew is he was face down in the sand!
I moved him so he's face UP in the sand and he can stay there until I either nail, superglue or putty him into place. His sibling is as happy as Larry where he is (next to where Nomad was) and I have indeed named him Larry
The OH has just suggested I call Nomad 'Edmund' as in Hillary!
I was so preoccupied with this ricordea that I almost poisoned the OH - I made him a cup of coffee and just realised before I added the milk that I had indeed made it with gravy granules and not coffee granules!

I now has superglue gel *mwahahahahahaha* so Edmund won't be going anywhere fast - tonight I will deftly and skillfully most likely end up superglueing him to my palm instead of a bit of LR

LOL!!

Thanks, been having a really crap day and all really made me laugh :)

Everyone remember if Jenny ever offers to make you a drink just decline politely :)

Bovril anyone?

I just realised I didn't tell you about my dream the other night...I had a dream where Edmund decided to relocate outside the tank on the front of the glass. When i asked him why he was there, he told me he was allergic to water!

Maybe glueing him to my palm won't be such a bad idea then

Well Edmund the nomadic ric isn't going anywhere now!

He's superglued down to a small bit of LR at last and is looking a bit - um - 'clenched' to say the least

I've had a change about to reduce the scum on the surface so the Flo is in storage and the original nozzle is on the outflow with one of the nanos also pointing to the surface.

The Brain has come out to feed so must love the extra flow :D

lol, it cracks me up that you have named everything. It is of course totally insane but still funny none the less :p

I have quite a bad build up on the surface of my tank so might have to do the same thing. Going to be adding my canister filter and hopefully the fuge at the weekend which will make the surface movement much better I hope.

I have to admit the tank is so sparce at the moment that naming things is easy and adds a bit of an 'edge' to things hun!

You should see The Brain atm tho! Tentacles EVERYWHERE woohoo! :D

I'm like a (rather old) kid who's been told they're going to live at Disneyland

I popped out yesterday to get a long arm glass cleaner and came home quite a few £'s lighter...

I now have a green hammer coral that's opened out beautifully and a baby cleaner shrimp called Jacques!

I am so happy I now have a Jacques  Time to let things really settle down for a fair few weeks while I contemplate my next fish :hyper:

While watching the tank last night I spotted 2 small white and brown shelled snails and another little chap less than 2mm long wandering about. I couldn't get a pic of the brown and white shelled ones but here's the tiny one

I'll take a moonlight phase shot tonight :D

Looks great :good: , love that hammer and "Edmund" looks awesome as well! Very nearly got a hammer today but the torch was much nicer looking (and my wallet was screaming for mercy already :) ).

So what are you going to call the hammer then? :)

That's the first thing that came to my mind, but the OH shouted Enoch at me when he asked why I was laughing (in response to you asking me what I was going to name the hammer). I don't mind him shouting at me but I was sat right next to him at the time

Wow, dunno if I've ever seen a Ricordea that color... Nice

Thanks! I just love them! :D

They were so tiny when I bought them at the shop and they've now opened out so well. They really do glow amazingly well under blue leds!

Hi,
I don't have a sw tank set up yet(gotta get the darn stand finished...otherwise it'd be up by now), but I've been heavily researching. I like open brain corals myself...influenced by Skifletch :D

I have an article written by Bob Fenner. He has written or helped write a few books and at least 1 of his books is recommended in the realm of knowledge. He suggests feeding the brain:
"I suggest no more than twice weekly feedings of Open Brain Corals... other authors/aquarists only advise one or two times a month. Meaty foods (fish flesh, crustaceans, shellfish) or chunky size can be placed at night right on the animals tentacles. Still other writers and hobbyists apply or rely on their systems, refugiums to produce sufficient planktonic food for their Open Brains... I encourage you to expressly feed yours."

:)

Here's something I had posted on another journal:

*Just to share something that I read on Melev's Reef. If you have something you need to spot feed but fish or shrimps are coming up and snatching the food from them:

Cut the bottom off a 2 liter bottle (or similar).
Put the open bottom of the bottle around the coral.
Use turkey baster to put the coral food into the top of the 2 liter bottle where the lid would go.
You can let it sit there for a little bit to protect the coral and food while it eats. Another tip was to put a few small tiny holes around the bottle. That way if you forget to remove the bottle for awhile, the coral still has some water flow around it.

Just thought I'd share since I just read it and this topic was kinda about feeding corals

Thanks so much for that! I was already aware of the benfits of spot feeding this at the moment as I only have one of them and I turn off the pumps for a few minutes and place meaty food directly on the brain to allow it to feed a couple of times a week anyway :D

It also lends it's tentacles to the water when I feed the clowns too :D
