Target practice, anyone else enjoy shooting?

I have a couple 480 Ruger revolvers, and a custom 50 AE Ruger...
then look into Magnum Research... they build revolvers in rifle calibers... I have several, including a 45-70 revolver

Oh yeah ! The bigger the better . I always wanted to tie into a .454 Casull or something like that . Does anybody know , did the .45 Long Colt ever get beefed up to magnum velocity ? There was talk about it some years ago but I never heard anything .

It has yes. They have the +P loads that have reached 13-1600' per second but they never called them "magnum".

Went out shooting a week ago. Just took the 1911 .45acp out and my friend took their glock 19 9mm. I hadn't been out shooting in over a year (shame on me) and my friend had only been shooting 6Xs in their entire life. I brought some clay pigeons for targets and set them on a hill at about 10 yards. My initial 1st 2 clips weren't my best work but by the 3rd clip I was locked in. My friend was having a hard time finding the target and was noticeably nervous. I found a couple of buckets and stacked them on top of each other. She was able to rest her arms and the gun on top of the buckets to steady herself and it made a huge difference. I also noticed that the take-up in her trigger was causing her the most difficulty. I got her to pull the trigger back to the engagement point to get rid of the take-up and than she started to hit more consistently. It was nice to see her excitement and some of that anxious energy dissipate to a point where she was reasonably comfortable. She's already asking me to go again.

It was nice to get out and get some practice on a warm day with a friend. I have been shooting my entire life but practice is absolutely needed to stay sharp. I did some walking drills, walk stop, acquire the target and fire. At the end from 10-12 yards I was hitting 6 pigeons in 6-8 shots fired at a rapid pace, not set shooting. She let me use her glock for the same drill and I was shocked how nice it fired and how accurate it was. I've never been a fan of glock pistols because I dont care for their triggers but this one may have changed my mind a bit. 1911 has always been my pistol of choice and personal preference but I may buy a glock in the future just to tinker with. I owned a gen 3 glock in the past but her gen 5 felt entirely different.

Highlight of the day was her excitement and the smile on her face at her new found level of comfort. Felt good to see her having a great time with a new understanding of safely operating her weapon. I wonder if she cleaned it🤔😂😂..

Anyone else get out and get some tsrget practice from time to time?

You are pretty lucky.

In Canada it so expensive, that buying moose meat at the store cost less. And I shoot only once.

Going to any range is painfullllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.... The rules are just all deal breaker with restricted stuff.

I was in for action... At least enough to... So I bifurcated part of the budget to air/Co2 propelled they cost less that a box of am. And got "in" It's not as exiting. But I'm in my 50 feet inside range, I made a great catcher, there's no cork in the ears, I ruled the floor so you have your distance. and printed a panoply of target that goes down to tiny, tiny.

At first I was going with pure efficiency... But then I found a 1911 Co2 replica that has full size mag and as much recoil. They eat lots of Co2 but the simulation is exact.

I mag dumped it until the slide froze last time. When pepper starts to come back at you. your not holding target. loll.

Contender??? FIL had about 25 barrels... I think it was taken over by S&W, but not supported, as the Encore ( Contender's big brother ) can handle their proprietary rounds, like the 460, and 500 S&W's, and now the AR platform is shooting all the old Contender cartridges, albeit they are all renamed... I continued FIL's collection, when it came here, and had over 40 different barrels at one time... at least half went down the road, when I had my big sell off...

someone else ( like SSK ) is making actions now that fit all the barrels out there...

Haha... Now we know the moniker Magnum Man doesn't come from an aquarium filter...

If I shot 40 box in my life it's good, 90% was for results. most of the time I shoot a new one a couple times and I'm ok for first intended use.

It's like a bike you never lose it.

I love shooting my bows. Firearms, not so much. They're a tool, and I use them, and I'm pretty good with a rifle, and I get them dialed in just right for hunting season. But I don't shoot firearms for fun too much. Except the .22. Who doesn't love plinking with a .22?

I do try to end every sight-in session by blowing up a milk jug full of water. That's pretty satisfying. But overall? I have a lot more fun with bows and arrows.

I guess I'm like Matthew Quigley*...Don't have much use for firearms. Never said I didn't know how to use one.

*Except Matthew Quigley is infinitely cooler than me.

That scene at the end where he outguns the bad guy is priceless . The look on his face when he got beat to the draw was the best look of total astonishment / bewilderment I have ever seen . Tom Selleck makes a great cowboy . His best cowboy role is in the remake of Monte Walsh . Oh , and by the way , that Sharps rifle he uses was made just up the road from me in Big Timber Montana .
