Tank Updates. 3 Months In.

they are very solid. oval tube metal construction.

Obviously a bit more cumbersome than a pendant kit but should allow me to wrap/mount moonlights around the supports too.

At the moment i have 3 blue marina leds dotted around the edge of the tank.

They are ok but are very directional. If i submerge them then the light floods a bit more but they look unsightly when submerged.

that lighting looks good

thinking of getting a single halide for my nano, do you think that would fit on an 18" cube?

are the fittings specific to the pendant or are they a generic unit?

No the legs are actually specific for an arcadia series 4 halide.

My light is an aqua medic ocean light 150 modded with an interpet 2x36 watt t5 unit.

To be honest the legs are about 1/2 a centimetre out but are very sturdy.

When i have more time on my hands i will silicone small blades of carbon rod into the grooves
at the top of the 4 legs so my light will sit fully flush.

At the mo 2 of the legs are fully seated and the other 2 just rest.

2 turbo snails added. and they are already becoming a pita.

I have had to pick them up about 4 times now.

the last time and i had to pull apart my live rock formation to find one.

Just out of interest how long will a turbo snail last if it is upturned?

think one of the snails may have bought the farm as i have just returned from a long shift at work and found one upside down in the sand.

I have reseated him but his body didn't flinch like it has done other times when i have had to rescue him.

if you have to right the snails that many times in such a short period, it sounds to me like there with something wrong with them

snails are extremely sensitive to water changes and need to be acclimatised at least as carefully as fish / corals - not saying you didn't, they could have been in a condition when bought

One turbo defo dead.

Let the bristleworms have a chomp for a bit before i took him out.

Whats the best way to remove the snail from the shell? i would like to keep the shell for hermit use.

Btw i had acclimatised the snails via the extended freshwater method. One is fine the other was useless.

thanks!

Today i started the process of swapping out the ceramic media from my cannister filter.

I have 1 compartment of bagged rowaphos now.

I will fill another compartment tomorrow when i get some more filter bags.

I will then set up 2 compartments of purigen.

And cut the carbon from 3 compartments down to 2.

Any advice on the filter bags?

The canister i use is a fluval 305. it has 2 layers of foam filter. Should i leave the foam in or remove it? Or halve it?

I have taken a few shots of the tank so we can monitor how effective the rowa is at combatting my algae.

here is the sand bed.
