I found this gallon jar (the left) and another bowl. Its the jar I'm concered about. Can betta thrive in this?

I think the bowl may not have enough horizontal space for a betta to swim around in -_-

In the pic, the plant is weird looking. The jars deiamiter at its widest is about 5 and 3/4 inches......Are you sure that its too small?

Am I sure it's too small? No. Do I think it's too small? Yes.
I'm sure a betta could live in it, but if it were me, I'd go for something wider.

Technically you can put the betta in a 1gal jar, i seen many people do it on here and i did a thread a while back asking if it was ok and it is was apparently. But personally i'd try to give the betta as much space as you can afford and fit.
Also bettas have been known to jump out of tanks/containers/whatever so you might want to cover the jars up with somthing unless you want a mummyfied betta on your carpet.

Mumified? Like that mumy movie? *Opera band strikes uP*

I'd definately say go for something wider. They prefer to swim back and forth, and a taller jar means they have to go further for air.

:dunno:
I think I might go against your advice and try it.......if worse comes to worse I'll move him into my 5G (Which I can emptie of fish very easily).
................Hard choice.......I know what should be done....but it would look cool............... :dunno:

It might look "cool" but you should be more concerned about if it is suitable for a betta, not how cool it looks. I would defently get something thats more wider. Plus, since it looks like you have quite a bit of gravel and a large plant in there, it would really only hold between 1/2 gallon to 3/4 of a gallon. I find Kritter Keepers (the ones that are around a gallon) to be great, they are wider then they are tall, plus they are pretty cheap.

I personally don't like tanks so I go for the 1 gallon bowls. I have my betta "Rascal" in a round 1 gallon right now.

and before that I had another betta in a bowl less than a half gallon for 4 years.

I don't think I'm a bad betta keeper for keeping them in bowls rather than tanks.

I agree with Meg 100%.

IMO, my fish's welfare is more important than their tanks' appearance. Anyway, a stressed fish doesn't look that cool. :/

Yeah, Kritter Keepers are great. I have Jerry in a 1.5g and it's great. They have vented lids too, and a trapdoor thing for easy access. :)
