Starting A Nano Tank

I might have done one mistake along the way. When i got the argonite - i washed with Tap water until the water is not milky. Then i the aragonite sand bed in aquarium. I realize that there are some tap water along with the aragonite that cannot be removed [Note that i did not have any declore with me]. I then mix my RO water (salted) to the aqaurium.

Now, i think they about half a gallon of tap water in tank from the aragonite wash. I then put the (presumably cured) live rock in and plug in the pump.

Will that tap water kill any of the living mechanism of the LR? say 0.5 gallon out of 10.

Thanks!

Probably will be fine. To raise the salinity, just topoff with 1.026sg water until the salinity in the display is up to 1.026.

For refractometer calibration, don't bother with RO water, just use a cal solution of 1.026 and adjust to there. No need to use 1.000 as you'll never be measuring near there ;)

Thanks! Now, water change, is this required during cycle; i read in some place that you need to do a lot, some place says "do not touch the water until fully cycled"; which is correct?

No, leave the water changes until the end of the cycle - we only do water changes in a tank with uncured live rock as it is

There are 3 chambers in my tank- first one is filled with filter pad, second is empty and third one has the pump. Since the second chamber is empty - is it possible to put the heater in there so it's less visible and to save space?

Thanks

indeed, take out the filter pad, and add:

the heater
live rock rubble
rowaphos

in to the chmabers at the back :good:

Even the filter pad? ok ...
Btw, what is live rock rubble? is it small live rock? How is it handled? in a bag?
Rowaphos? how does it like physically - small particle stuff in a bag?

Thanks

yes live rokc rubble is just what it says, little bits of live rock. not usually in a bag

rowa is phosphate remover. looks a bit like coffee and you keep that in a bag

ammonia is over 3ppm (2 days running). so much for the (presumably) cured live rock. I hope the cycle will not last longer.

If LR rubble were to stay in one of the chamber - wouldnt they lack lighting as the lighting in the nano seem to not be directed to the chambers inside area.

The Live Rock rubble is there for its biological filtering capabilities. It does not require light for this function.

There are some things that can survive on LR which is why we light it in the aquarium. This does not matter if just being used as filtration.

I see; does the current flow has to "hit" the LR in order to filter properly? I currently have the LR is the lower half of the tank. Not sure if the current can "strike" on them.
