Spitting out flakes in the morning

Passed. Lived for almost a month in quarantine.

In the meantime the rest of the fish have undergone a growth spurt; for the first time the tank doesn’t have fish that’s either withering away/u turning during feeding or hovering for extended period under the shade. I halved the water change frequency and fish seem to be doing great and a lot more hyper now that they have bigger friends.

The parents have reached a year old so hopefully they can all survive past their first year without having any more glitch.

Ugh! Flashing came right back after diluting out fluben... I give up! I think I will make this tank a dumpster tank for now since it's riddled with all sorts of issues (another diary update)

I'm going to start over with wild-caught annulatus. I decided on this after having purchased some WC Normani lampeye, and I have to say they've taught me how easy it is to actually keep aquarium fish. (In relative to my last experience that is)
Even though WC, I am yet to see a single moving object on either a skin scrape or fecal sample.

Update after a looooong time; the flake issue is solved!
For me, this was a temperature issue. Raised tank temp from 22 to 24 degrees C and never again any spitting. When one starts to eat they all start to eat, and growth has been much faster, too. I was surprised how fast they would grow in the spring.
It may have been due to speeding natural metabolism or due to some pathogen being inactivated.
Now that I think about it the issue started around December when weather started to get cold and also the issue being only in the morning is due to the tank being coldest in the morning.
