I've just been browsing the species index looking for info on a botia speices and I notice we don't have a loach section. I think we should do because there are loads of loach species and it would be nice to have somewhere for the information to go.

Anyone else agree?

the loaches are put under cyprinids :look:

I do agree that we could do with a botia species index, as well as a forum section. The catfish section has been split into different sub-sections, including corydoras. So why do botias/loaches still go under Cyprinids, Characins and Atherinids? Would we not be able to also sub-section this and include a loach section?
I think it would be a lot easier for the newer (and older) fishkeepers that aren't fully aware loaches fall under Cyprinids, not to mention it's just a lot easier to find information if you dont have to go through pages of unrelated fish info.

I did a poll a while back on this very subject, although I can't seem to find it.
I'd love a loach section, but it won't happen.

there are HEAPS of species of Loaches there could be sub-sections for the asian loaches such as Borneo suckers and gecko loaches

So how do you answer the person that asks why Loaches aren't under Cyprinids since that is what they are?

Oh come on! It's a lot more obvious having a seperate loaches section than knowing that loaches are cyprinids.. 99% of fish-keepers, both experienced and not experienced don't know that loaches are cyprinids.

Never mind. Why is it that whenever a person makes a suggestion about this forum everyone jumps on them and finds ways of making it a bad idea.

You say that, but I absolutely guarantee that if we had loaches and cyprinids as seperate forums, someone would query it within an hour.

You have to think things through. If we have a seperate loaches section, then the cyprinids section would have to be cyprinids minus loaches. Then someone else will want barbs seperate, or rasboras. In the end you get dozens of boards with nothing on them because nobody can be bothered to navigate them.

Yeah I know, but truely I think they deserve a seperate section - most newbies wouldn't have a clue that loaches can come under cyprinids.
If it was a section within Cyprinids, then people would need to know they were Cyprinids in which case they will know where they are.

i think they need a live foood section too. i was looking for somethin like that but there is none. and lots of people wanna talk about live foods.
