How do you keep track of the fish you have...

so... I'm still working on my spread sheets... the African tank's current sheet, is used in this months tank of the month contest... I've started my hardest one, my Hillstream tank... so far, it looks like this... ( not quite done yet ) this one is harder, being the number of varieties, and the fact, that many have not been properly identified yet...

Bamboo Forest, Hillstream Tank… 55 gallon soft water ( RO ) Hygger 300 watt heater set at 72 Degrees F... 2 Tidal 75 HOB filters ( Modified)… Pothos Vines & Lucky Bamboo, a little driftwood, 20 inch bubble waterfall, Nicrew Skylight plus 48”, small natural color river rock, with (2) 2 inch stone rock piles…

We keep journals, similar to Gwand I think but probably simpler. One for each tank. Each has common name of the fish, the day purchased, any noted issues, aby noted solutions. The journal also has a water change schedule, a vacuum schedule and a general cleaning schedule for whatever non-living items are in the tank. We also make notes of anything we observe that catches our eye as well as behavorial notes on some of our favorite fish.

Fry birthdates are noted, and we have journals for the fry tanks with somewhat similar notes. We also make note of fry survival rates, where they go and when they went.

I actually thought we were anal about gathering information but apparently not. We both actually like paperwork, go figure, so the journals are enjoyable. They also force us to be more observant which I think is the most important part.
