I'll have to do some reasearch on pH. Thanks for all the links, very helpful. I have always had a very low pH but the sick Shubunkin was accustomed to it.

We found him in our outdoor pond when doing fall cleanup. We setup the pond for plants in June (lotus, lily, etc.) and plopped the plants in and never paid any attention to the pond water because we had no fish and the plants kept it fairly clean. Sometime in October/November we were removing plants and leaves and found the Shubunkin hiding under the lotus, he was pretty big considering we know he wasn't in the pond prior to that because it was brand new. We had to buy a tank, etc. because we weren't prepared for a fish but he did just fine and was thriving until new addition. I think he was used to the low pH but I guess I'll have to gently raise it and keep an eye on it.

Good luck and hope he's well soon.
