i have also edited the post to include a note that the mod should have PMd me that he has edited my post or should have put his username for any query.

What is there to query if it's against the rules ? Or did you not know ?

to ask the mod which specific site they don't like linked to.
why? because i have been linking to other sites eversince and continously seeing people linking to other sites with no problem. and this is the first time that i actually saw a mod editing a post.

maybe it is just one of those mod days.

Your advice to me on light timers was excellent

If any admins are reading, remember its not a life or death situation here, only an honest mistake. I know its your forum and the rules should be adhered to, but everyone makes a mistake sometime! We are all human (well some of us anyway)

That is hardly fair. I don't feel the whole story is on here, rather a part. I know the moderator you are talking about, and I assure you, it does not happen that way. Only William can permanently ban members anyway. If you have such an issue with what happened, PM him or William.

Fillet 'O' Fish - We allow for mistakes. There are tons of posts out there with edited links that we have done nothing about, except for edit them out. I've edited out tons of Junk Posts, nothing done, etc. Believe me, we allow for mistakes.

On the original subject - I do not expect it will be changing anytime soon. It's William's board, and William's rules. He has chosen to make it this way, and I think we should respect that.

I think links to other forums should be allowed as they are on may other forums on the net, I understand that in the past there may have been spamming issues with other forums hence the ban

As with all things on here, William has the final say , so if you feel the forum could be improved, make your suggestion, if he likes it he may well implement it, but if it is not taken up, tough luck, move on.

If you really don't agree to something on the forum, go find another forum that does provide what you want, that's what I did I can and do still come back to TFF if the other forums don't fulfill what I need/want and to keep an eye out .

I was the one who started this thread. Perhaps this will explain why I did so.

Today I came across a post about water params. I could have provided a helpful answer but instead chose not to reply. the reason for this is simple. I basically had 3 choices:

1. I could have written a totally original lengthy answer.
2. I could have provided a link to an already well written lengthy answer on another site.
3. I could have done a lengthy search of this site for posts on the topic, read them all and then linked to an appropriate one.

I was unwilling to spend the amount of time and effort numbers 1 and 3 above would have taken and did not opt for number 2 as it is a violation of site rules.

When you copy/paste material written by somebody else it is proper etiquette to credit the source, which. in this case, would have been the URL and name of the site.

In six plus years of posting on fish and plant forums all over the net, I have never once posted telling somebody to search the net or the site on which I was making the post for the answer. If I am unable or unwilling to reply to a post in a detailed and helpful manner, then I do not post anything.

Nope, but on a forum with such a large FO section, GR could be seen as a competitor, especially as it addresses most hte topics that RC does in FO, but in a much better way.
