Sf05's Slow And Steady

You patience has paid off mate, nice looking Ne.. doh erm CLOWN

 :kewlpics:

Looking very nice, I especially like the photo with nemo. The coralline algae looks like its thriving on that round live rock.
Thanks Alot :)
Yeah that Round rock looked good when i got it but now it looks great. Although it has great colour it's the least porous piece in the tank. It'll look good covered in some zoos :hey:
You're off to a good start on your nano. I look forward to your next update :D

nice tank and fish :D

but i shudder at hearing the word 'nemo' *shudders :p

 Well having two younger sisters kinda made nemo an obvious name for the poor clown as soon as they saw him. hey if you think nemo sounds bad you should hear what the shrimp has been called.....Mr Chips

You're on your way....IT"S ALIVE. SH
 It Sure, is i'm Luvin it! Look down i see Hermits munching on Algae. Look on the glass i see snails chomping away. Look on the rocks i see Mr Chips minding his own business. Try and look somewhere else and i have Nemo in my face

Nothing much to report but i thought i'd update anyway and ask a few questions.

Found a bit of red coraline growing on the glass today, hopefully i wont have too much of this stuff growing on the glass. Found an empty snail shell today  Hermits? Innocent until proven guilty. If i catch them in the act they'll be back down the LFS because i can only get the snails i need online and the means £14 delivery :/

Can a cleaner shrimp hurt you if he wants? Everytime i put my hand in the tank to clean up or move the second pump down to stop it spraying water up he lunges for me! Not sure if he wants to kill me or clean me and i don't want to find out.

Picking up a peppermint shrimp tommorow to get rid of the 2 Aiptasia i have in the tank. Also some kind of string browny-green algae next to them? Also a bit of green bubble algae, what's the best way to remove this?

Not sure what fish i want next, I'm in no rush. No one in my family likes firefish for some reason. We all like royal grammas but i know he's no good for my tank so i'm looking for something we all like.

Alrite mate how u doing

Your Cleaner will be curious what the new pink lump in the tank is and whether it needs cleaning or not, I cant do anything in my tank without my Cleaners crawling all over my hands & arm, strange feeling but you get used to it

I personally wouldnt worry about the Asps I have spotted 1 or 2 and simply put a small bit of milliput over them, dont be to surprised if your pep. shrimp doesnt look at them

Royal Gramma's can be very good social fish but make sure you dont get a Brizillian Gramma (I think they lack the striation stripes along there eyes (I Think) as they are apparently far more aggressive

IMO a 18g is fine for a RG but remember not to stock to quickly

PS. not really keen on hermits myself - just dont trust them - Snails are the way forward IMO

Cheers Mate :)

I'm not bad, hope everythings fine with yourself.

I guess next time he try to jump up me i'll leave him be. He doesn't have razor sharp teeth or anything like that though? :look:

I really do want a RG but am worried about aggression. Maybe if i add him last and look for one that doesn't seem to boisterous i may be okay.

I like watching the hermits but i don't want them to touch the snails, so if i catch them eating one i'll get rid of them and order in their snail replacements.

I can chip the Aip off the rock, use joes jucie or concentrated lemon juice. Milliput over them but i really have a bad feeling about doing one of them. I was hoping the Peppermint would do the job but i guess i'll have to try one of the other methods.....

Thanks
Dan

Done some calculations and I am sure that 2lbs of C4 Plastic Explosive should just about erradicate a bed of healthy Asp's :byebye: :byebye:

 Yea, that should do the trick! :D -_-

Already tommorow (Today, damn i need to go to bed) Nemo has been in the tank 1 week. Times going by so fast now it wont be long until i have a full blown reef on my hands :D

Finally had some good news with the RO Unit today. I found another black rubber connector which fits the tap in my bath so i can use it safely in there. Just set it all up and pulled the slider over, came back home a couple of hours later........Jobs a Good-un. Enough water to do tommorows water change and enough for a weeks top off :)

Took some tests tonight and was quite suprised by my results
Sg - 1.024
PH - Still low at 7.6 :(
Ammonia - 0 good
Nitrite - 0 good
Nitrate - 0 was kind suprised at this. A week with nemo in the tank and feeding him with no nitrates at all :dunno:

Tommorow i'm going to pick up some more frozen foods for my cory fry and nemo. Obviously i didn't plan my trip down there to run in time with when the LFS puts its latest marine batch up for sale after quarintine

I did say i'd leave it a couple of weeks. My readings so i can do otherwise. I'll see if theres anything down there i like :look:

Cheers
Dan

Went down the LFS today and didn't really see much i liked apart from a B & W clownfish but i decided against it as i want some variety in my tank as i can only have 3 fish. I was about to leave when my mum called me over and pointed at a purple firefish.

I was surprised she pointed him out as she has said in the past that she doesn't like them but this one had some great colours on it. I also noticed that it had great finnage. The ones around here normally have ripped and jagged fins. So i had him! :D

I know i did say i'd wait a couple of weeks but my params are perfect (apart from PH) and i knew i wouldn't get a cance like this again.

I did a waterchange already this morning so the param are even better than last nights test (If possible).
Got a few pics of him while he's acclimitazing. He's washed out abit from in the LFS tank but it's the best chance i'll have of getting some pictures for now.

I won't be getting a royal gramma as this firefish gives me some purple :)

Will diffently leave it a few weeks until the next fish no matter what the params. I've been looking at other fish i like. This is what may be the last fish in my tank.

Midas Blenny
Blue Neon Goby
Red High-fin banded goby
Six line wrasse

Cheers dan

Some more Pics! :D
Hopefully they'll come out better but don't hold your breathe.
I changed my light setting to run in with flourescent tubes and changed my quality from normal to s fine.
Macros still wont work so close up will be crap and also the picture takes longer so maybe some camera shake. Need to get me a tripod :)
Wha resolution should i take my pictures at so they come out nicely for this page without resizing them on photobucket?
*If your on here while i'm posting, sorry i have to mess around with the sizes so bear with me :p

Tanks looking great sf05. With a pH of 7.5 take extra care acclimatising your fish and or corals. Do you know what your LFS's params are? Best to check. That pH is worrying.

Although your pH is low, this is not uncommon during immediate tank startup. The tank will be unstable. When do you test your pH? It is usually lowest in the morning. Try testing it later in the day and see how you compare.

I wouldn't buffer your tank for now. Stick with weekly water changes. SH

Cheers guys. I test it first thing in the morning and have never done it when the lights have been on for a while. I test it out later and see what i get :/

Heres the one more picture. Look how great my clown has coloured up :)
