Figured it out, I can get some different bulbs, and a ballast to cover the higher wattage, as long as I don't melt anything, I'll still be saving £100, so it's still ok.

Dan, I think your original rock setup was good, a minimalist approach, it's all to easy to just cram the rock in there!, altho obvious filtration benefits.

Hey everyone

Been a while since i updated this thing, nothing much more to show as i've been so busy doing more jobs to the house, just thought i'd let you know the thing still exists!

Well i decided to put more work into it and things are looking very good. My glass is spotless (Sides + Front) and the water is crystal clear, everyone looks to be striving and my nassarius snails gave me about 200 little ones all over the glass.

Only trouble now is getting the substrate a clean white once again, i've fought every type of dirt there possibly is to keep it clean. My last victory was against string brown cyano which started to invade my rocks as well. That's gone but is replaced by a bit of red cyano. It's dieing back now though as there is only 1 splodge left

From what i've read im coming to the end of the substrate battle and then everything will be just about perfect!

Have a £25 voucher for the LFS i might use tommorow for a final fish or cleaner shrimp. Almost ordered my custom upgrade tank earlier but decided i have to get driving before starting another project so booked a bunch of lessons.

Everybody goes through the cyano bloom, myself included. Time, vaccuming, and controlling nutrient export are the best solutions.

SF05, I've never seen that much coraline in a tank. Your entire rocks are purple

I agree that corraline is growing great, it should soon out compete all the other algeas. Although some say it plugs up the live rock, I think it does more good than harm.

Yea the coraline is kinda crazy Luckily it doesn't grow too much on the glass, as it does my head in getting at the back and grinding it off

I'll try and get some more pics up of the tank later on in the week when i have some spare time. Been fighting this heat with an enormous fan to keep it at 81.3 all day

Didn't get to go down the LFS today, i think i'll wait until Wednesday when the new stock is on sale

I did take a look down the LFS wednesday but there was nothing interesting apart from a nice royal gramma but i left it and will take a look again next wed

Hey Everyone

Been ages since i updated this or even been on the forum

The tank is still going strong although i still aint done much to it as i was considering getting rid of it to go in the army.

I'm trying to get an apprenticeship now though to get money while i learn the trade which means i can keep the tank. I finally made it downstairs lol like 2 months ago but i'm gonna move it back to my room now it's decorated and get it looking flush)

I'll post a pic of how it's looking tomorow as i cleaned it just so everything a lil cloudy.

Anyway just thought id let you know im still alive, i'll checkout everyones threads and see how you'll getting on with your tanks later on i think

Hey Peeps

I'll load up pics later when i'm back from work but i've got some bad news

We bought a new bathroom suite last week and are having it fitted next weekend, sadly i forgot that it doesn't have a bath it has a double shower instead

Which means i cant mix my RO I don't trust the unit to do it in the sink or downstairs and i don't want to make weekly trips to the LFS to lug up gallons of mixed RO, sadly it means i've gotta sell my tank (Damn things change by the day don't they )


I bought a new setup for a new freshwater tank up going to setup in my room when i get rid of this one and although i't wont be as much fun it least it keeps me on the forum until i can get my own place and start the marine adventure again.

I'm hoping i can sell the tank to someone on here so i can keep up with it's progress and know its gone to a good home

I'm gonna give everything that i have which REALLY is a complete setup for £150 which is less than the light unit alone.

I hope i can sell it to someone on here and i'll post it in sale section later on when i have some recent pics.

If anyone here is interested drop my a line and i'll see what i can do

Surely this means you need to sell your bathroom suite!
