Setting Up The 29g. Totally Psyched I Have Saltwater In My Living Room

It's funny isnt it, I bet non salties wouldn't believe we could get so excited about some snails

Oh I know... But the salty snails are much more interesting than average fw snails. To me they are anyway :)

And that's after I've spent years staring at fw snails so these are new to me.

Yea, they are fast  It's crazy. As soon as food hits the water they are all surfacing. I'll get a video of that too eventually. I'm headed to Virginia today :D YAY!! Quite excited.

Wish I could bring back some fish with me  They have a bit of a better selection. I suppose its a bit harder to supply fish to the middle of the country than right by the ocean

We had quite the ordeal coming back home from Virginia

Our connecting flight to Omaha, NE was through Dallas/Ft Worth, Tx last night. We board the plane at 9:00ish and sat there for around an hour and a half. Just sitting on the plane at the terminal gate. One of the inspection guys had noticed a small puddle of fluid below the right engine. They were running engine tests...basically reving them up and down to see where the leak was, find out what it was and if they could fix it. They ended up booting us off that aircraft and taking the plane out of service. We sat in the terminal in the airport for a little bit not knowing if we were getting a flight back that night (that one was the last for Omaha for the day) or had to sleep in the airport or if they'd put us up in a hotel. After a little bit the captain and co-pilot came off the plane. Masses of people closest to them started to get up and follow them so we thought we'd be safe if we followed as well. Sure enough, the airline had found a plane for us and we boarded and were in the air around 11pm (approx 2 hours after originally scheduled). I'm glad the inspectors did their job and didn't fall "asleep at the wheel". When we arrived in Omaha, we still had to drive 3.5-4 hours to get home. That was insane. I don't know how we managed to stay awake. My brother and I took turns driving and we both swerved around the interstate at some point due to being so tired. We ended up arriving in our town at around 5am. I was supposed to be to work at 7:45. There was no way I could do that or be ready for it. I emailed them the story and then went to bed. My hubby was kind enough to get the kids ready and take them to school/daycare for me so I could continue sleeping.

Well, That was our crazy flight home :)

Thanks. The whole ordeal was kinda scary. Even trying to drive home when we were so tired was scary.

GREAT NEWS!!!

Apparently, in my absence, the gobies have reconciled their differences and I'm happy to report they are now living together again. And a HUGE plus... The SHRIMP is with them too!!! :yahoo:

Here they are along w/a video.

Here are nass. snails coming out of the sand after food. It's really insane how fast these critters move.

I've had my first casualty in the tank

Thankfully it's only 1 astraea. All water parameters check out ok. No ammonia, nitrite and only 20ppm nitrate.
PH is 8.2
SG 1.025

Others look a little funny. Their foot looks a little weird. I'll keep an eye on them over the days. The gobies are fine and poking their heads out of the hole. I'm feeding them about 3x a week now instead of every day. That should greatly cut down on excess nutrients.

On a sadder note.
I probably won't be building my light canopy anytime soon. My brother was in a motorcycle accident saturday. He was in the ICU at Avera for a day and will probably be in the hospital for at least a few more days. I'm spending a decent amount of time up there. When he gets out I'll probably be helping him around quite a bit. Good news is they expect him to be ok, even with the slight bruising on his brain. He also has a shattered ankle that they put pins/screws in. He is one lucky little sh!t. He would've died if he hadn't been wearing his helmet and he doesn't always wear it :(

Oh my word - hope your brother is well soon. We sure don't seem to be a band of lucky souls at the moment do we.......... got to be our turn for good luck soon :good: Actually thinking about it, maybe your brother is the start of good luck for us all, it could have been so much worse  Must have been very worrying when you were waiting to find out how he was

Update...fish are same o same o. The shrimp was really moving stuff around on the outside of the burrow yesterday. Was cool to see. Unfortunatley if I move to get the camera it scares them and he doesn't come as far out when I'm ready to film

My bro's motorcycle:

He's in the hospital for a least 2 more weeks. He's getting rehabilitation right now. Learing to balance on his right leg and ONLY on his right leg. He also has a fractured L5 vertebrae in his lower back, and both sides of his pelvis are fractured. The right isn't as bad as his left, which is part of the reason why he's not to put weight on his left leg.

Here are some pictures of one of my favorite pet stores in Virginia. I wish I had one like this nearby.

They have a HUGE freshwater "pool" with large fw fish in it. It used to be salty but there was an accident with pumps and most of the saltwater fish had died.

Redtail catfish

Some kind of freshwater stingray (motoro perhaps??)

And here's the salty pics :D

This is the Looonnnngggg row of salty tanks. You can see where they have a couple tanks on the main walkway and then an open space on right where there are more tanks back in there. Its like a square back in there w/a few tanks on each wall. They have a TON of salty tanks, I tell ya :hyper:
