I went to a friend's the other day, and she has a fresh water tank. In the tank, I noticed a Yellow-tailed blue damsel. Im like "Thats a marine fish!" and to my horror, I discovered that fish has been in there for almost 24 hours and was stark white.

I kidnapped the fish from her (Well, she gave it to me knowing it'll die), and I took it home right away. I put it in a bucket of fresh water (about 5 gals, lil less) and gradually, I added more salt water to it. took me about 45 mins to get the salt water level normal and left it in there for about 10 mins in normal salt water level.

Since it was a bucket, I knew I couldnt leave the fish in there, so I risked it and put it in my tank, again, adding the tank water to the bucket for another 20 mins or so. I would've done it longer, but I didnt want to stress the fish out more.

Worried sick over night, thinking it'll die anyway (remembering how white it was!) the next morning, it got its color back and doing great! A beautiful blue fish now.

At close look, it has white spots from the stress I guess, but its swimming around and eating. Its been 3 days since that sad day for it, and its doing great with my shrimp and the rest.

I hope it continues to survive!

Wow i know these fish are hardy but this must be the "Arnie" of all of em!
Well done for the rescue, just gotta wonder what to do with it? These fish can be very nasty and adding it to the tank may well cause problems later.

With the trouble my blue damsel has been giving me lately, I'm almost tempted to say you should have left the thing there :p Okay... maybe not.... but DO be careful now that it's in your tank. Damsels are not known for being particularly friendly fish, and lately my blue damsel has become a true pain in the butt for me. Tomorrow night when the fish store opens (only open Wed-Sat) she's going back. She went from being fairly docile and occasionally being picked on by my 3 stripe damsel, to being an absolute terror... and harassing my gobies, my hermit crabs, and even the 3 stripe that used to terrorize her. Plus, she keeps getting down in the sand and flicking her tail, spraying sand all over my polyps and making them close... and clouding the water up.

Good luck with it.... hope everything works out for you.

I dont have any other fish in the tank, just that one. Im not planning on adding anymore fish. Just another duster or two maybe. I'll have to see what else I can do without overcrowding the tank
