Sam's Now To Be High Light And Tech 20g

Apls - yes cat pics :)

Ginge - not sure about the fire things, but I reckon it probably would, they all have standard size threads etc so it should work but dont take my word for it, sorry!

Sam will that reg you have fit a fire extinguisher(spelling :p )?

Ginge that regulator will fit a fire extinguisher, i have an identical regulator on a 2kg fire extinguisher running CO2 into my small 15 gallon tank.

Sam a couple of questions..........how much postage did you pay in £sterling to the seller on ebay, i looked at his/her stuff before and was tempted by the solenoids, did you buy a solenoid? I dont need solenoids now but just curious for future reference.

How much light do you have over the tank? or did i miss that in the thread somewhere....hate to be a killjoy but if this is a highlight tank your Anubias are probably doomed in their current position.

Interesting substrate you have there!! OK only slagging.........2 tanks will keep you busy!!

"Lighting - 1x 18w Arcadia freshwater and poss also 8w freshwater. What I have in there already seems to be growing OK, but think the extra 8w to give me 1.3PWG would be better than the 0.9WPG I'd have without it."

The soleniods are £20 and about £5 i reckon.

How long would a 2kg last on a 55G?4months?

Think it cost 14.95euro to send to anywhere in Europe. But if in doubt email him he replies in English.

As Ginge said, currently 1x 18w freshwater and adding another 8w. So this will be a low light, low tech tank, I dont have time for two EI tanks! Thats why Ive used the anubias, hopefully they wont get to much algae on them under such a low WGP. But thanks for pointing it out all the same :)

Sags have just arrived will hopefully plant them this eve. Update pic to follow.

ok i didnt read the thread properly its a low light tank..........just be careful with some of the solenoids he is selling if thinking of buying one, some of them are rated at 3.5W and will run quite hot.......thats why they are cheap.

You would be better off with a 5kg on a 55 gallon tank, the difference in size (height) is only a couple of inches, you might get longer than 4 months if you used a 2kg with a solenoid, but thats only a guess, im using my 2kg with a solenoid and only a 15 gallon tank so it should last ages, on my 40 gallon i have a 5 kg again with a solenoid and the CO2 tank is still registering as full after a few months of usage, so i dont know how long i will get out of that, it should be a long time.

Thanks my dads a fireman so it should be quite easy to get hold of one but he cant give me refils on it as he has no canister to fill it from. I will just need to by one every a few times a year which is cheaper than refils avery month. Sorry for thread stealing sam i can't wait to see your tank wiht all the sags in.

Sam - the tank looks great! The green of the plants and the dark substrate look really good together. Looking forward to seeing the updated pic!

Edit: BTW, the green thing that appears to be attached to the swords in the cat pic is the Eheim intake strainer!

Alright Ginge! Steady! glad you seem to be so interested :D

Here's the update pic, sags added last night and removed the swords and Ech, all of which went in the bin unfortunately as I dont have anywhere else to put them! Not expensive species at least.

Here are two pics with different exposures, think the brighter one is best.

And here's one without the wood log on the right, the clowns went mental when I removed it and were dashing about all over the place so I had to take it quickly! Once the sags are established and not going to get uprooted by the rampaging clowns Ill take a decent pics and remove all the equipment so the tank looks 'clean' this'll probably be a month or so, so no pestering Ginge! :p

Any comments/suggestions on the anubias? Not sure they look quite right? Perhaps a different type would be better? Or change there positions? Not sure :/

Sam

EDIT - so it is Squirrel! Should have looked a bit closer first!

The only thing I'd do is cut the leaf that's creeping up to the surface. It's a little distracting to me. Otherwise, let's give it a month and see how things are growing.

It's going to be a lovely tank, kind of what I wanted to do with my 20g, but I couldn't afford it. Those are very nice anubias. Mine are still going through an awkward phase, but they'll pull through.

llj :)

Yeh think you're right about that leaf, think I'll try pinning it down and seeing how it looks first, cutting it off is a bit permanent if it goes wrong!

Yeh they are nice plants, nice a green and lush, just hope they stay that way!

Will see how it looks in a month or so, once the sags have grown out a bit and covered more of the substrate that should help. I know what you mean about the money, this re-scape has probably cost me around £300 in total, but hopefully its worth it :)

Hi Sam, What type of Co2 diffuser are you using? also how tall do the sags grow?

This one, but im thinking of downgrading it to this one as the one I have doesn't produce bubbles across all of its surface and think it would using a smaller one. But I've spent enough money on this tank for the time being! Eyeing up my middle 40lt tank at the moment! Three planted tanks would be quality! Haha another CO2 kit to buy!

Sam,

Its looking a lot better without the swords. I think it will look even better if the sense of depth can be enhanced.

Are all the anubias at the same distance from the front? It appears that way in the pic.

BTW, how many sags did you buy and much did they cost?
