Sa Cichlids For A 4' 240L Tank - Any Lists Available Somewhere?

I have to admit, I have been in the situation where I have had a mature angel and been umming and ahhing about adding a second - it might just be a situation of finding a few similar sized ones and trying a few and see if a pair forms? I dont know I can totally understand if you dont want to risk it with your current one.

I would 100% go with sand as there are not many fish that actually need gravel where as there are quite a few fish that need sand.

Cupids IMO one of the most underated cichlids I really wish I had space for some in my tank a lot of photos dont show off full potential as their real beauty is quite iridescent and reflective but in the right tank shows up incredibly check these out though - http://www.aquatic-experts.com/Biotodoma_wavrini.html

I think the Rotkiel would work nice in there :)

The Bronze Cories will work nice as well :) You could mix the Albino and Bronze if you like :) And those Bentosi Tetras are perfect very nice! Headstanders are just an interesting fish IMO like I say a nice addition to the South American tank a medium sized fish that pretty much stay to them selves in a group, they do nibble at plants but if your planning a Severum plants are not really much of an option lol.... But the headstanders can help a little with algae.

As for decor - twisty wood is perfect stack it up at each end of the tank and leave the middle for swimming space :)

My Angel is the same, I would like to add another, but he/she even had a go at my bolivians. Do you think aggression would calm over time, or would it not be worth it?

I couldnt get the link to work earlier but this is the pic i was on about

The other good think about Wavrini is there normally cheaper.

that's a very nice looking fish. Onto the list of possibilities it goes....

I think I have quite a timid one, so maybe adding a juvi or two might be the best way if I were to go that route?

if I ever see them again! Have only found them twice, hence why I've still got just 3 from an original 6

will look more into them

sounds good. I like my current planted set-up but would like something that is simpler to vac

ive recently fallen for Baryancistrus beggini which since they only get to 4" a small group could work.

isn't that a Blue Panaque? Always liked those....didn't know they were social

Ok, I think so far I like the sound of

1 rotkeil sev
1 Angel (maybe 2 or 3 if I want to introduce juvis to my current adult)
4 of either Biotodoma cupido or Biotodoma wavrini
up the bolivian rams to 3 (want the red breasted acara - but reluctant to move my 2 BRs on)
up the Albino bronze corys to 8
up the rosy white tip tetra to 8 (if I can find some). Otherwise replace with 8 diamond tetra???
1 blue panaque
Keep my bristlenose

How does that sound? Think it also leaves me room for a few more?

Been looking through some of the members tank pics......what is this beauty? I can imagine it wont fit in a 240....

Yes it is, There not massively social but in such a big tank only getting to 4" there shouldnt be any problems with them, might even be a chance of them breeding.

Green terror (Andinoacara rivulatus?) i've got 3.
You'll be looking at alot less stocking if you was to go for one/pair of these, they're slow growers though and i found mine to be pretty chilled out when younger.

I read 55g/240L is fine for a pair but i'm really not too sure.

I've seen them locally but always just assumed 'must get massive' for some reason. This idea has also made me think about plecs in general and the more orante ones I might be able to keep.....there's some zebras 15mins down the road, but they will cost more than my new tank! Having a breeding pair of something 'sellable' would be a nice bonus.

The one on the glass is an Albino Plec and the other is a Green Terror. The plec is a little big for a 240 but a Green Terror would be a good wet pet solo cichlid with some catfish and dithers.

Your list looks okay but I would change one thing

4 Biotodoma Cupido/Biotodoma Wavrini or 2 Bolivian Rams and 2 Red Breasted Acara

I would not do both the Rams and Cupids as it might be a bit much. But the Rams and the Acaras are a viable option in together.

With the Tetras I would keep the Bentosi anyway and if you find an other school get that and then maybe add 2 more of Bentosi if you see them again?

google seems to think so. Stunning colours.....but would prefer if 1 GT could go with a community in a 240 and it seems not.

The GT sounds too limiting. As said, I do like watching the different behaviours in my comminity and restricting that to 2 or 3 species may not be enough.

Rams and Acaras.....sounds very promising!

Fair point on the tetras.

I consider myself a pretty active vistor to MANY LFS, but dont think I've ever seen cupids, red breasted acaras or rotkeil sevs (may just have missed them, but I look at EVERY tank whenever I do go). Are these commonly available generally?

GTs are a nice fish, very active imo - there's a video under my sig picture.

But i do agree that it's abit of a limit, It's nice to look around your tank and see what's going on.
Sometimes i wish i went down the more community road with the tank but i do love the GT lol.

I blocked sigs a while ago (too many brightly coloured pics that were hard to conceal whilst browsing at work!) and can't get them back. Any chance you could post the link?

the tank I was watching on eBay just got pulled! Sadly I'm limited to tanks with a dark wood stand which appear to be rarer than beech ones. My better half has made this a caveat for any purchase!
