This may belong somewhere else, sorry if it does. What is the rule on using Aquabid and breeder pictures of your fish in the contest? I know before people were slammed by other members for this, is there a rule?

Good question, treefrog. I too would like to know if pictures that aren't yours are allowed to be entered in the competitions or if you have to take them yourself...

i think the rule bites....aquabid sent me a picture better than any pic i could take of my bf's male betta. same with the female....they make them look way better than i ever could!

no way....ain't gonna happen. lol.

I've been told by mods also that since if you own the fish you can use any picture of it you want.

Just curious. :) I personally would have a VERY hard time voting for a pic in that situation, especially since they don't always provide proof they got it.(not you roll)

Also, it just doesn't seem very fair to all the people (not me) who don't have experienced fishy photographers to take pics for them.

Okay. Fact of the matter is....and I have read all of this before about when people ask whether the competitions are a picture quality contest or a fish quality contest....well.....we have all come to the same conclusion about HOW it is SUPPOSED to be and how it was designed to be....I will not claim to have been around when the OTM competitions were started on this forum, but I have been in enough of them and I have been here for long enough to know that the quality of the picture and who took the picture should have nothing to do with whether or not the "owned" fish should be allowed into the competition. What if the fish is at YOUR house, and say, your dad takes the picture? Is someone going to complain about that? It comes down to ONE simple point. Does the person that has entered the fish actually own the fish....if yes, then what is there to complain about? Or less, even be concerned at all. Let's face it, winning an OTM competition doesn't make you a better person, doesn't make you better than anyone....we are all here for one reason, because we love our little friends, not to win a banner.

(ya-ya-ya, all of this coming from a guy who pretty much ONLY posts pictures.....w/e, I love my fish and I love to take pictures of them to show them to you. Have I ever won? No. Does it feel good to just be nominated? Yes. So what?! :fun: )

Relax.

I'll pull my picture if it's gonna bother people that much. It is my fish and I am not a good photographer. I think the picture that was nominated shows his qualities the best, so when it was nominated, I was very happy. I have many other pictures of that betta if anyone wants me to prove it's mine.

I talked to inchworm and requested mine be pulled, because several members were opposed to me using it. While it was in the rules , i felt i would just take the pic myself and now it is entrered :D I didnt want to stir any mess, So it all worked out for the best.It is my pic entered now and no worries :D

i would never post a pic as my own if it was from aquabid or something.
yah, it may be your fish but it cheapens the whole process of going out and actually getting a good pic of your fish, try it sometime and see how easy it is.

nonetheless, it still cheapens the process.
ok, why don't we just call it "aquabid photo of the month" instead, better?
