Roma 200, My First Journal

That looks very good! I am surprised though that you found it difficult to build the stand. I bought a Hagen kit too the other day and one of the things I liked about it was that it was easier to put this stand together than assembling Ikea furniture!

have a few problems hope you guys can help me with ...

The slots at the top fo the tank aint big enough to fit the braket for my fluval 206 external filter. Do i have to cut the removable lids to make it fit? or am i being an idiot and doing something wrong?

Also i have set up the filter and you have to prime it the canister is completly full of water yet when i turn it on it just makes weird noises and water aint coming out or being sucked in. have i set it up wrong?

I am not sure what you mean with the bracket? You have 2 slots on the back side of the tank, these should have the size of the tubes for the inlet and outlet of your tank. Then, the hood has some slots as well and normally has some extra wants that you take out in case you use another type of filter. Your filter came with the kit, right?

No, you have probably set up your filter correctly. However, there is still air in the tubes that you need to get rid of first. That is why you prime. Follow the instructions for priming. It is normal to have to prime several times before getting it to work correctly. If you have a chance to see your tubes, you should see how the water level rises in your tubes every time you prime. It is also normal to see bubbles coming out of the outlet or even the inlet.

Good luck!

no i got the fluval u4 with the tank. But im going to sell that because i brought a fluval 206 to have in this tank. yeah at the back of the tank there is two holes made each end of the tank for the tube from an external to go into the tank. So you put the tubing into tht bracket to fix to the tank. Which fits. But the cover for the back of the tank wont fit. Does that mean if you use and external filter you dont have the back of the hood on. do you get what i mean?

The pipes are black so i cant see the water level inside the pipe but im pretty sure there completly full because when i primed it the water level in the tank dropped quite abit. i have primed it for ages ive pumped it loads. ive got to the stage where if i plug my filter in it looks like its working properly for about 4 seconds then stops and just the noise happenes again. So ive got to just prime it even more yeah?

Ive gota go to work now so ill have to give it ago again when i wake up tomorrow.

Good news i think i have the filter working properly now! every so often it makes a funny noise and blows some air out so i think theres abit more traped in there but looks like it working.

Ive added my old filter from my other tank...

I added my filter and the water was left to heat up over night so at the mo i currently got my neons in there getting used to the water temp. I know there not the hardest fish but with my filter from my old tank they should be ok right?...

Tank now has 5 neaons, 4 lemons, 4 cherry barbs and a platy in. The colours of the fish are so much better in the new tank! look amazing. All the fish seem to be doing well aswell. When i take my filter out to sell it with my old tank i think im going to buy a new power head. Are they pretty cheap on ebay? I dont want one thats going to be too powerfull though.

Went to a LFS today. Was so hard not too buy any fish! They had some young lemon tetras and i want to up my numbers but i had to stop my self gota wait a little bit before adding any new fish. Then i came across what i believe are Bolivian Rams. There were marked up as American Rams. They looked amazing. Only reason i went to shop was to check if they had any rams so i new where to get them when im ready.

Are they Bolivian...?

yes there bolivians they look good quality as well :good:

Cool so i no where to get them now then :) i was so close to buying them today lol Will the shop no if theres a pair in the tank would love a female and male and maby one day breed them.

i think bolivian rams are quite hard to sex so might be hard to get a pair. nice looking tank btw love the romas, get some more plants and some big pieces of wood :good:

Thanks creg. Yeah ive got one peice of wood currently soaking waiting for it to sink and another one im waiting to be deliverd. Got lots off java ferns and anubias waiting to be attached to them. Also just buying some moss off another member. Then might look into some vallis or a easy stem plant. Slowly but surely it will get better lol.

Yeah ill just have to ask and hope they can sex the rams.

Also selling a fluval u4 filter that came with this tank brand new if anyone interested. Ive posted it on the classifieds section if anyone interested.

Regarding the tubes: I changed the Fluval filter that came with my tank for a Rena and the existing slots in my hood are too small too. Although there are other pieces that are pre-cut, I decided not to do it but just placed the hood on top. What happened is that from the front the hood is right on and in the back it is simply a bit higher but it doesn't really show.

Yes, those are bolivians. Nice fish!

Sounds like its coming together, bolivians are verydifficult to sex to be honest, I just look for behaviour in the shop, just watch them for like 10-15min and have a good guess

Vallis is a good choice but it takes time and patience as it sends off runners rather than being able to cut and replant, so if you wanna get the tank looking decently planted get some stem plants, get some vallis too but just plant it and forget about it if you know what I mean, dont be impatient with it lol
