been able to progress so fast for two reasons.
1. stock was all ready to go in another tank and new live rock was from established tank
2. lots of planning and reading up beforehand!

nipped down to SW marines yesterday afternoon, just for a quick look around.
what a mistake that was!
they had a cracking fungia that was a lovely pink colour with luminous green tentacles. had to have it.
picked up a talbot damsel for just £7. think its the wifes favourite fish now!

they were also in need of tank space as they had a delivery coming in, in the evening so they were banging out all SPS for just £25 each!well i couldn't really say no could i
picked up a nice hysterix, a red montipora, and a cracking blue tipped acro.

will get some pics later.

on the negative side of things, last night i saw the beginnings of some browning of the sand, which i am guessing is the start of cyano. up to this point i haven't being using any phosphate remover, hoping that i could get away with the masses of macro algae in the sump to soak it up.
However as this is obviously not growing quick enough yet, i chucked a load of rowaphos into the skimmer to help it out.
with any luck i'll have caught it early enough, but i won't be surprised if i get a bit of an outbreak.

on the plus side though, all corals are looking really good. the encrusting monti that i had in the nano is expanding well and has its polyps out nearly all the time now!
i was worried that some of the corals would suffer under the much stronger lighting of the new tank, but so far all is looking good. :good:

Going to have to keep a very close eye on calcium level now mate. Those SPS use it up so fast.
Get some pics up :)

yeah i know.

have been looking at getting a tunze osmolator for doing top ups as the level is dropping pretty quick due to the lighting over the tank and sump.
also on the list is a calcium reactor, bit of a pain really as i sold the CO2 kit i had for my freshwater setup! just didn't think about it at the time!

any one got any ideas of which Ca reactors would be suitable bearing in mind the space in the cupboard is pretty limited right now.

have got some Ca buffer that i bought when i first got into stoney corals for the nano, but never really used it as my regular water changes kept the levels up anyway.
will have to start testing and dosing properly in the new tank, cos as you say Ben, the SPS are gonna just soak it up under the lights!

with any luck, the new acro will grow well and provide me with some proper experience in fragging. Defo get a few quid for each of them!!!

Rob

link below is an image of the type of acro i got yesterday. Mine is much bigger though!

really struggling with my camera. its auto everything so it won't focus properly on what i want it to! :shout:

Hi

really like your tank and the montipora are great i have one in my tank and i put it up near the back of the tank and has spreaded all ove 3ft going to start fraging it but dont know how to

edit: also what are the fish plans for your tank

thanks scott

Hey Rob, looking good dude :) :good:

I'm going to order the 24x24x24 cube from ND this summer for sure I think! did you order yours with the pipework and still needed to find extra to make it complete!? Thinking of clear silicone & black cab, how do you find their standard sump? Think it'd be better to specify the design to them? :good:

Hope you dont mind the q's :)

Cheers Scott,
I think fragging monitpora is pretty easy, just cut it in to chunks and secure onto peices of rock. Well thats how i've seen people do it before.

24x24x24 was what i was going to order for a long time then at the last minute changed my mind and went for the extra length. have to say that i'm glad i did now!, the footprint isn't that much bigger but there is masses more volume, and to be honest cost wise its not that much more!
It would normally come with all the pipework you need (think the cost is £40), but i was being awkward and wanted the return pipe split into two at the top of the weir, so rather than get them to do it, i sourced the bits myself. As long as you know what you want they will happily put it all together for you though!

clear silicone is fine, though the black looks really good as well.
As i think i've said somewhere before, it really would be better to source your equipment first, measure it up then let ND know what dimensions you want the sump to be. they are very accomadating so will do whatever you want.

2 words of warning: You will need to silicone the bulkheads in yourself (well i needed to anyway!), also would be good to have some solvent weld at your disposal as i needed to touch up a couple of the joints that ND had done on the pipework.
