yeah bit of a neat freak when it comes to aquariums (the rest of the house is a tip but the tank has to look good!)
still need to tidy up the wires a bit, might get some trunking or something to hide them in.
also the computer bit of the Vortech pump needs to be fixed somewhere, probably to the door of teh cabinet for easy access.
The holes on the sides of the module are tiny though so need to get some really thin screws.

as for the skimmer how long should i be running it? all day, part of the day etc......
never used one before so just don't know.

all day every day. You wont see it do much til you have some fish in there, but then it will show you its worth.

cool cheers!

as you say the bubbles are all just white at the moment, but i'm assuming that when i get some bioload in there the bubbles will go brownish?

no, the bubbles stay white. They will go up and over the neck of the collection cup, then some how they o brown in there!

IMO i would run the skimmer 24/7 :good:
The bubbles will be white in the skimmer neck and as they collect in the cup they will go brown. The bubbles want to be level with screw A in the pic to start off with then you can see how it runs. if the skim is to wet or dry you can undo screw A and adjust the skim cup up and down so the bubbles are lower or higher in the cup neck {high bubbles a wet skim low bubbles a dry skim} hope that helps Rob

Looks wicked Rob mate :D you got me sizing up an area to squeeze one in lol :(

good luck with that!
mine has only around 2-3mm spare when i take the skimmer cup off. The one i've got is huge!
from what Ben has been saying they are well worth it. Only time will tell!

oh
you don't need much really.
Its only 3 foot, its the depth and height which makes it big.

my previous tank was a 5 foot tropical (Trod is converting into marines at the moment) now that was a BIG tank.
Curiously volume wise its nothing on my new marine.
5 footer was 385 litres
total of new system is nearly 500 litres!

I'm actually staritng to understand this sump business - I can't believe it :shout: keep the photos coming and all the instructions, fog still needs a little more clearing

SEffie x

:fish:

Dude, you almost look like you know what you're doing ;)

Seriously though, tank and sump look great :good:

My one concern is with all that glass between the halide and the water that close to the water level... That's an algae and constant scraping nightmare waiting to happen. Anyway to lessin the glass crossbracing to increase your level of sanity?

Ski, we're doing marines, we're all insane to begin with

I know what you mean but sadly the cover plates need to stay. My wife is petrified that the cats will get up on the tank and go for a swim with the fishes!
One in particular is a curious little so and so, and i have no doubt he'd find a way to get up there one day.
as for the cross bracings there is only one, and it goes across left of centre.
