Rob's 3X2X2

just a quick update.

my yellow bean gobies (Gobiodon okinawae) spawned in the week.
loads of eggs on the underside of the branches of my acropora.
completely forgot to get pics but will try to next time.
didn't notice till the day before the eggs hatched, but you could see 2 little black dots (presumably eyes) in each of the eggs.
no idea if any of the young will survive but you never know.

Congrats on the spawn :fun: That's awesome. Will be looking forward to pictures next time :snap:

I love your FTS on the page before. Tanks looking really good.

Hi all,

well it seems the bean gobies have spawned again already!
at least i'm pretty sure they're eggs, they certainly don't look like acropora polyps.
there are no poloyps out on the acro only these things in this tight area.
They've done it in the exact same area as last time and are very aggressive towards the blennies if they come too near.
i'm sure you guys will know though!

this time i've got some pics!

as you can see the underside of my acro has gone white.
don't know if this is the action of teh gobies or somethings not right (light?)
its happened all over the acro, though the top is still brown.

some gobies have been known to strip acroporas when breeding, they certainly look like eggs and that bit of acro looks bleached and dead so id guess this is what has happened.

not sure how i'd do that other than sumping the whole acro which i don't really want to do.

the eggs now have eyes!

parents are still protecting them.

trouble is once they become free swimming i think they'll just get picked off by the other fish in the tank.

you never know, one or two might make it.

the rate these gobies are breeding i'll get overrun if i start raising them. they're spawning every 3-4 weeks!

i dont know if they are anything like clowns, but a lot of people wait til the night they hatch. They hatch after lights out once all fish are sleeping. Then if you shine a torch on the water surface the fry are drawn to it. Then gently net or siphon them out.

could work??

its a good idea, i'll defo keep an eye on them. any ideas how long they'll take to hatch?

on another note i went to SW marines yesterday and was there when their new stock arrived.
some amazing fish! (sucker fish? worm fish? wrasse achilles tang!!!)
also picked up a load of zoa frags for a tenner and a big lump of zoa for £26.
the big lump is fire and ice!
100's of polyps with red orange fringes with bluey white centres and a yellowy mouth.
awesome looking zoas and worth a shed load!!!
SW marines couldn't beleive the price either. guess TMC made a bit of a mistake!!!!
